Yes - it most certainly is "a dive, a hole, a pit - full of undesireables" and I wouldn't have it any other way!!The Borough is my most favourite place in the whole of Sunderland (but then, my favourite place in the whole of Newcastle is Bar 42, so that might tell you something). The Borough IS a dive, it IS a pit, and yes the clientele are shall we say "characters" - but let your hair down, leave that stick up your backside at the front door, and you'll have a brilliant time. The jukebox is superb, the bar staff are wonderful (and uber hot), the atmosphere is 2nd to none, the manager is a dead canny young lad who keeps the place very clean (the girls toilets smell nicer than my house....probably can't say ther same about the blokes though!).This pub is also self policing - noone has ever kicked off in there in all the time I've drank in it! You'd honestly be safer in here than you would in any other pub in town.If I won the lottery tomorrow, the main thing I'd miss about Sunderland (cause lets face it - I'd move to New York) would be the Borough. Loosen up and let it get in your blood - you'll never be the same again.

Let's keep it simple. A dive, a hole, a pit - full of undesireables. Drinks aren't even well priced. Upstairs is a mosh pit, it's main attraction. Not nice!
