The Keelman is situated next to Newburn Lesiure Centre, not far from the banks of the River Tyne. There's loads of space for car parking and a huge outdoor area, complete with the obligatory tables and chairs, as well as a kids play area. The establishment itself is rather large, with a cosy bar area and ample tables for diners. The bar sticks a wide range of real ales, all brewed next door in The Keelmans own microbrewery! The price of the real ales is very reasonable, the pints of cider being slightly dearer. The food menu is superb, with a wide range of dishes and huge portions. A lovely place to visit, if you find that you've indulged in Big Lamp ale just a little too much, The Keelman also has accomodation!

Fantastic Real Ale Pub With Own Brewery

This wonderful pub is situated by the River Tyne in the Tyne Valley Riverside Country Park. Big Lamp Breweries moved here from (you guessed it), Big Lamp, Newcastle in 1996 and converted the old disused water pumping station into a state of the art microbrewery complete with attached pub in which customers can sample the fruits of their labour. Not only does the pub serve a canny bevvy but their food is also fantastic and is well renowned around the area. It has a large beer garden complete with patio heaters which are usually well used despite traditional geordie claims of toughness! The Keelman also does bed and breakfast and hosts regular pub quizzes.Insider's Tip: Buying a 2 pint jug of ale is cheaper than buying 2 separate pints.
