Bar 42 is like the Bermuda Triangle of bars for me and my friends - we always think it's in one place and can never find it! You go downstairs when you enter and the place is very dark. There are two bars inside though which get very busy on a weekend but it's usually quiet for a mid-week drink. The drinks are mega cheap - with house doubles or named spirits on special offer. The music isn't loud so it's a good place for a chat. The food is ok too - also reasonable. I quite like the place although I don't often get down there. It reminds me of my late teens as you used to have to be 21 to get in and we were asked for ID many many times!

Bar 42 is situated in extreme proximity to the monument metro station in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is a quite spacious bar set over 2 floors, however it can still become extremely busy and full on weekends. The bar is quite dark and dingy but many people still go for the extremely cheap drinks (£2 house trebles). It plays chart music and the staff are competent at handling the large amount of people ordering drinks. The bar is a haven for many students who use it as a meeting point before venturing to the more expensive clubs located close by. If want a cheap drink and a laugh go there, if looking for a quite pint it's not the place for you.
