I used to go to the Gold Medal quite often with a group of friends for a meal and always thought that the menu was great with tasty food and loads of choice at really reasonable pub prices (around £5-£6 a main course!). However, we returned recently to find that the menu had completely changed and been replaced by a much smaller one. It's still an OK choice for a quick pub meal, especially if you like to watch the football while you eat, but it's not as good as it was a few months ago. There are better pubs around for a meal but the staff are very friendly and the seats are comfy!

The Gold Medal is somewhere which i live relatively locally to and is somewhere that i remember going to since i was in a pram (though it wasn't called the Gold Medal back then, it was Porcupine Park). Its location is bitter-sweet. It is located right next to a busy round-about. This is the only down side. It boasts some great views, especially at sunset and is easily accessible to locals by walking as well as being easily accessible to people from further afield. It is popular with families during the day (especially at weekends) and with a younger crown in the evening. They offer good food and drink. You will enjoy a visit to this pub.

I stumbled across the Gold Medal onroute to a friend's house and decided to pop in. The location isn't the best and it would appear that the pub attracts many locals. There were large flat-screen TVs (handy when football is being screened and all gaming machines seemed to have someone playing, whilst being observed by others. We went there for food and I recognised the menu as being idenitical to the one at my local, The Newton Park in Heaton. The food was brought quickly and nice enough. I opted for a roast beef and yorksire wrap, whilst my friend opted for chicken tikka masala. Both were nice enough. The Gold Medal, like my local also does various theme nights, curry night, etc. and some promotional offers like 2 meals for £8.Overall, I would say that this this pub is OK to nip into if you happen to be in the vicinity but I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to visit.
