I took my best friend (who is a sushi expert) here the other weekend and we thought it was brilliant. The menu is extensive, the food was very good, service was excellent and, even better, it was one of the best value places I have eaten in for months (£3 for 6 maki rolls).I now regularly grab a take-away from here on weeknights and they do offer a delivery service (but only for over £17.00 and only after 6.30pm or thereabouts). This is a great addition to Richmond which is massively lacking in great places to eat.

I live in Richmond and have noticed over the years how increasingly chain restaurants have taken over. There aren't enough good privately run restaurants around. That is why I was really pleased to see Maki. The guys at Four Regions have made an excellent start with Japanese.I love Japanese but I think Matsuba in central Richmond, whilst very good, does produce a final bill reminiscent of a cricket score. Maki is very fairly priced, has a good, varied selecion of dishes and those serving are very polite. The conversion of the restaurant has been tastefully done. Most importantly, the food is freshly prepared, the fish is chosen according to what is best on the day and I haven't been disappointed with the selction of sushi and sashimi so far. I've been about times now. I would definitely recommend Maki.

A return visit to Maki was required after reading the rave reviews below. I can now see what the fuss is about. A big improvement since our first visit. Service was friendly - really like the amiable manager. We ordered some miso soup, chicken yakitori, various sushi and some sashimi. It was all really delicious, and the fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. An accompanying Asahi beer was perfectly ice cold.Really pleased we gave Maki a second chance and will certainly return again.

Excellent addition to Richmond

Richmond needed another sushi restaurant, and Maki is a wonderful new addition! The food is excellent, and is better quality and value than the ultra-expensive Matsuba in Richmond town centre. They have a very tasty dinner menu (try the eel on rice), and they also do an excellent lunch and takeaway service.

If you want Sushi in Richmond, this is the place!

A new Sushi place in Richmond is cause for celebration, in my book -so, as soon as we spotted it, we went in to try.We weren't disappoint -a nice clean interior with a sunken table area, which is very authentic Japanese -shame only a small area of the restaurant is like this. The staff were very friendly, and the Gyoza and Tempura were excellent, some of the best i have had. We also ordered some Salmon Nigiri which were nice, if a little fish-heavy for my taste -i prefer a bigger rice base, but that may just be me.It's a casual, walk-in place, which is my favourite type of Sushi bar -i don't personally like having to book and go somewhere formal when i want sushi. Having said that, the interior is calming and clean, as it should be.Recommended, i hope it does well.

Maki Japanese Restaurant

Maki is a Japanese restaurant that opened in Richmond in November 2007. A friend told me she had noticed it from the bus recently, but hadn't tried it as yet. I decided to beat her to it, and dragged hubby there for lunch the day after she mentioned it.Arriving at Maki, we tried not to be put off by the empty dining room - there was one other couple, and a family of four. The friendly welcome from the manager helped, as did the sign advertising their lunch special - Bento Boxes at only £6.We both ordered a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, which came with Miso soup, salad, Vegetable Gyozas, rice and Teriyaki chicken. The meals certainly looked nice on first impression, and flavours were fine, though nothing amazing. The waitress who served us was not very friendly, and I hated the way she cleared hubby's dish while I was still eating, and the way she attempted to clear our glasses when we hadn't finished our drinks yet. The music was terrible too - an odd mixture of bad classical music with some Christmas songs mixed in. Oh well, our meal was pretty cheap, and the manager was nice. We won't be rushing back, though perhaps I will return one day and sample their sushi once business picks up a bit for them.** I gave Maki 2 stars based on this visit, but have since returned and upgraded the rating to 4 stars **
