Andrew, David and me decided to have a meal at one of our favourite restaurants and as usual we were not disappointed. We sat outside and were pleased to have the overhead heaters. Kir Royals to start with followed by two bottles of Rose Chinon. starers were scallops and the rustic fish soup, good but could have been a little hotter. Mains I had steak (with Bearnaise sauce)done the way I wanted, well done- the Scottish way. The other two had nice Halibut steaks. I don't like their homemade chips. Desserts we had Creme Brulee, Biscuits and cheese and Nougat Glace. I could not fault the service or welcome. Not as busy as usual for a saturday night. Must be the credit crunch. This is the first time we have got in by booking on the same day. Quite expensive at £75 a head but worth it once in a while

Cosy French Bistro

Hidden away on a cobbled lane in Richmond is a charming restaurant called La Buvette. It is a little bistro with a very cosy feel, serving up typical French cuisine. Having walked by it numerous times we decided to try it our one night with some friends. There is a terrace for alfresco dining in the warmer months (the perfect place for Sunday lunch!) and a small dining area inside. The food was mostly good. To start, we had the King scallops a la nantaise with braised celery and bacon, and the Escargots de Bourgogne. Unfortunately the scallop sauce was a little burnt, and our friend was disappointed that his snails weren't served in their shells. The main courses were much better - the Fillet of Sea Bass with a fumet of braised gem lettuce, basil and tomato was very well received, and the Roast Duck with red cabbage was really delicious! Desserts were good too, though the Crème Brulee was so rich I couldn't finish it.The service was efficient and friendly and there was just a lovely (non-smoking) atmosphere. We all really enjoyed the evening.
