About

THE GHOST TOUR OF GUILDFORD

The Ghost Tour Of Guildford was founded in 2001 and runs every Friday night from Good Friday to the end of November (including October 31st) in Guildford town centre. It is the only independent tourist attraction in the town centre. Tours begin in Guildford High Street on the pavement by the central steps outside Holy Trinity Church (which is on the right near the top of the street a short way beyond Sainsburys) at 8.00pm. The tour lasts 1 3/4 hours and covers over a dozen haunted and mysterious sites in close proximity of each other in our ancient town. It passes through Guildford High Street, North Street, Tunsgate, The Castle Grounds and Quarry Street and finishes at The Angel Hotel, a few minutes further down the street from the starting point.

Discover why Holy Trinity Church is cursed, the identity of the mysterious lady in grey seen around Tunsgate, where Guildford's criminals were executed, where a phantom dog has been seen during one of the tours and just how many ghosts there are inside Guildford's most haunted building, The King's Head pub. Since the foundation of The Ghost Tour Of Guildford, many hitherto unknown stories have been added through extensive archival research and scary tales told first-hand to the proprietor by those who have experienced those 'beyond the veil' for themselves.

The tour is run by Philip Hutchinson (a professional actor and Equity member) who also sits on the Council of The Ghost Club, the oldest paranormal society in the world, founded by Charles Dickens in 1862 (www.ghostclub.org.uk). He is a paranormal investigator who has been involved in ghost hunts at many haunted buildings and has been acknowledged in several books on ghosts and local history, including as advisor to the late Andrew Green for his final book 'Unknown Ghosts Of The South-East'. He is also the author of the popular 'Haunted Guildford' (History Press, 2006) as well as several other non-fiction books.

The Ghost Tour Of Guildford has proved extremely popular since its launch and has been featured on various television programmes and independent documentaries. Appearances include 'Kilroy' (BBC1), 'The Big Breakfast' (Channel 4), 'Haunted Britain' (Channel 5), 'Xchange' (CBBC) and Den'en Kobo D'z TV in Japan. It has also been featured in the press and on the radio many times, including frequent guest slots on BBC Surrey.

Please note The Ghost Tour Of Guildford is a PROFESSIONAL INDEPENDENT BUSINESS and should NOT be confused with any other guided tour of Guildford. Costs are £5.00 for adults, £4.00 for students / OAPs and £3.00 for under-16's. There is no need to book and the tour runs whatever the weather. Please note, however, that the tour does require a minimum of 4 people for it to run (this said, numbers in summer can reach up to 70 or more). The tour includes some audience participation and humiliation and although all the family are welcome (and often do) attend, it is primarily recommended for those aged 8 and over.

The walk is fairly easy to negotiate, though wheelchair users may experience difficulty passing through St Mary's Churchyard. Besides the regular Friday night walks, private bookings can also be arranged for other times and days. Normal costs apply with a minimum fee of £75. If you are coming to Guildford on holiday or wish to discover its seedy and paranormal side, then you cannot afford to miss The Ghost Tour Of Guildford. It is an experience unlike any other you will find in the town and is, by acclaim, one of the most entertaining and educational ghost walks around. If you like to laugh and scream in equal measure, we invite you to join us.
