Good to get out of the town centre

A few minutes walk from the horrors of Bridge Street lies this pub. I agree with most of the earlier reviews in that it's a shame it has lost the old world pub feel but the eclectic mix of old furniture and draperies is interesting at least.Good selection of beers, including some unusual European beers you won't find elsewhere. Not cheap but well worth paying some extra cash when you consider the next nearest places (Lloyds, Flares, Bar Med and the ilk).

Better in than out.

For an edge of town pub it's not bad, from the outside it does look like a place you'd find 60s hippys, don't be put off.As has been said not cheap but a far better place than all that crap in Bridge Street.

Huge beer selection

I can remember at least another few versions of this pub before Mitchell and Butler took it over and reverted back to the original name. And a good job they've done too. It has a bit of a bohemian feel to it with lots of low lighting, good selection of reclaimed furniture, heavy drapes and lots of nooks and crannies. Come on a Friday and Saturday night however and you probably won't pick up on this as the place will be jammed and the bar at least three deep. But the choice of beer will more than make up for it. With a selection of quality German and Belgian largers (try Pauliner) as well as some great bottled beers (Duvel always hits the spot), you're also spoiled to at least two hand pumped real ales as well as beers from the Meantime brewery.Pick a quieter day and the food is pretty good value. The home made burgers really are worth a trip for. But they run out quickly so get your order in early!

Expensive but worth it.

A very nice traditional pub... but really quite expensive. If you are willing to pay the extra cost though this is a fantastic venue for a casual drink. There is a good range of ales and beers on offer, and although pricey, it is worth it for the excellent staff and good atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and service is usually fairly quick, although sometimes the pub does get slightly full, especially at weekends.A great pub that, although slightly more expensive than others in Guildford, should not put you off paying it a visit. One of the best in Guildford.

Trendy bar, great range of beer!

Since it was refurbished a year or two ago, this place looks about 1000 times nicer, and it now offers a brilliant range of beer, serving german beers, fruli, kriek and my favorite: Mared Sous on tap! At around £380 a pint it isn't the cheapest place in guildford, but I would pay the extra money to be sitting in such a nice environment as opposed to the spooons/yates bars that are littered all over the rest of guildford. The food is good here, especially the herefordshire steak burger, although again, can be a little pricey! Nice heated area outside, best bar in guildford!

Modern

This pub was refurbished about a year ago. It has become another ultra modern gastro style of pub. I do quite like the layout which is quite refreshing, although on the downside the place has lost its 'pub' feel.Drinks range is decent, if getting a little on the expensive side. Its ok, but would not go here regularly.
