About

About Capital Care....

Capital Care is an investment specialist, also offering a service for families of elderly people receiving care in their own homes, about to enter or already in residential or nursing care.

Although we are based in East Anglia, our clients come from all over the UK. We are able to offer advice through the internet and post.

It is always traumatic when an elderly person has to leave their own home and go into care home. We can at least help relieve some of the financial worries.

Paying for your care needs....

If you are moving into a care home and are selling your property, remember that there is a 12 week property disregard. The local authority must ignore the value of your home and help with your fees, as long as your other savings are below the means test limit.

It is also a good idea for couples to split their joint savings accounts. If one goes into a home, state support is assessed on just that person's assets.

If you are paying for your care yourself, claim attendance allowance, and it isn't means-tested. If you are going into a nursing home, claim for your nursing care, worth up to the current rate, even if you're in for a short stay. The neediest can qualify for full NHS funding of their fees.

Nursing allowence

The contribution the NHS makes to pay for nursing care falls into one of a small number of bandsâ€"reflecting different levels of nursing care needs: each individual will be assessed separately and assigned to the appropriate band.
There are three bands for nursing care purposesâ€"high, medium and low.
High is for those with complex or enhanced nursing needs. Medium for those with standard nursing needs. Low is for those who could possibly remain at home, but who choose to go into a care home. Specially trained NHS nurses with a relevant background conduct the assessments.
It could be possibly argued that anyone assessed and receiving the higher rate allowance has a strong case to qualify for NHS continuing care (where the NHS funds all care needs).

Investment and long term care specialist.
