The kennels is now under new management and staff and is run by Greyhound Gap rescue. There is no longer a cattery and they have a limited number of dog boarding spaces. They specialise in Greyhounds and lurchers

My dogs stayed here for 18 days and it was upsetting, stressful and an awful experience for ourselves and our dogs for several reasons. When we picked the dogs up we were rushed to the office to pay without seeing them first as we trusted the kennels due to pre visits and good customer service, I happy to pay. We were taken to seen the dogs in a paddock who were running around like mad and were so happy to see us we then left and went home and initially nothing seemed wrong as the dogs seemed so full of energy. When we got home I checked them over as any responsible pet owner would do and it soon came to my attention that some basic standards of care had not been given.  Both dogs had lost weight. I understand that kennels is a stressful experience and can affect the dogs eating pattern but I think their weight loss was a little extreme. We were told both ate well and a relative called to check on them several times and we were assured everything was fine. Darcey's weight loss was a little too extreme she lost 1.2Kg which is around a quarter of her body weight. She is a miniature dachshund and this is a huge amount for her. Her spine and ribs were visible and the issue seemed to be ignored. Billie lost 1.5kg she is a small cocker spaniel and the greediest dog I have ever know but yet again the issue was ignored. Darcey's coat was in poor condition and I didn't expect it to be brilliant as she had been living in a kennel environment but she had matted fur all behind her ears, under her bottom and armpits and it was clear that no standard grooming had been done. I had to cut all her hair as the matts were just impossible to get out. Billie's coat was in appalling condition and it was that bad I had to call her breeder for emergency grooming as I just couldn't leave her in that state. Her Coat was matted in all places except for her back. Her coat had to be all clipped off as the matting was that bad, her coat was filthy she even had dog faeces matted in her legs and she had looked like she had been completely neglected and not had a brush in 18 days.  We were advised that the dogs had been bathed prior to picking us up. My question is why weren't the issues noticed? (Maybe due to the fact that work experience kids had been looking after them) I cannot express how disgusting the coats were and cannot believe they were sent home in the filthy state that they were in. We were told that cocker spaniels were filthy kennel dogs, which is fine but I cannot accept the sate that Billie was in, the only word for it is disgusting. We were also told that we should have had them groomed prior to picking them up we obviously didn't take them up on this offer and I am so glad I didn't, I would never have known how my dogs had been neglected in this basic standard of care. I did contact the kennels the next day and they addressed my issues but not to a personal level and the reasons that they supplied to my issues were mediocre and predictable. We never even received apology.  If your dogs are part of your family and you care for their welfare do not use this boarding kennels I would never want anyone to go through the upsetting nightmare that I did.
