Excellent food if a little over complicated

Jenny @ Tristan's is a small restaurant, which is nigh on impossible to get a table for. You can almost guess what that means and it is spot on. The restaurant is fabulous as soon as you walk in you feel at ease and comfortable and the staff are absolutely brilliant at adding to your experience. It is set near the main high street but inside you completely forget where you are and its like you have gone through the wardrobe and have entered Narnia. We were lucky enough to be led out to the back where you enter what must have previously been the back of the building but it has been bricked over so it is like you are sitting on an outside patio but indoors. The brickwork isn't covered up and there is ivy climbing the wall and it all looks superb and the walkway through meant you could see the chefs at work in a very clean kitchen. After some fantastic table service we received our menus and struggled to pick a main dish. The reason for this was that the food seemed to be too complicated. You couldn't just order steak and chips it had to with an obscure sauce and rare vegetables. Eventually we decided on some mains and put in our orders. We didn't have to wait long for our main, which was good because we were ravenous. The mains were delicious and the atmosphere only added to it. They filled us up and we should have not eaten as much of them as we did but it was so good we couldn't waste a bite. Then we were given the desert choices and we put our orders in and the wait was perfect not too long as to frustrate you but long enough for the dinner to go down.Again the food was delicious and not too small. We finished and then went to pay and was a little suprised by how much it came too. It was rather expensive but about right for the quality and atmosphere.Unfortunatly due to its location you can't park the car close so it can be a bit of a trek home. We didn't mind though as it meant we could let out food go down before getting home and going to bed.Overall a fantastic restaurant with amazing staff, food and decor and only just off a five star because it was over priced and the over complicated dishes made it difficult to pick the main. But recommend for anyone to go to especially for special occasions but if you are not well off this isn't a regular place to eat out.Happy Eating
