Rendering weather proofs building walls and allows plastering and construction companies to apply an aesthetically pleasing finish to the wall using a variety of textures.
A mixture of lime, cement and sand in the correct proportions are often used to render buildings exteriors. The proportions applied to the render mixture are dependent on the strength and porosity of the building walls and so experience really comes into its own when deciding on the necessary approach.
Weather conditions can also influence the success of rendering – for example exposure to the sun can be minimised by starting on a shaded side of the building. Frost can also create some issues when applying render, and extreme heat also requires a certain approach to protect coats from drying out too quickly.
Breeze blocks are commonly rendered over to create an attractive finish. A float and sponge finish can also be applied to sand cement rendering.
We are also pleased to announce that we regularly use award winning K Rend products in monocouche (one coat) rendering on properties for landlords, private home owners, commercial properties, housing associations and local authorities.
Prior to skimming a surface our professional plastering contractors ensure the surface has been effectively prepared, ensuring the wall is bonded correctly and that plaster will not crack. A float is used by our skilled craftsmen to carefully and quickly work skimming plaster, leaving a finish of the highest quality.
We can provide full two coat skim, over-boarded ceilings and skim, replacement ceilings and skimming, repair work and float and set.
Our contractors work promptly skimming walls to fit with your building or refurbishment schedule and contracts.
Our domestic plasterers treat your home with the utmost respect when working in your home. The nature of plastering naturally creates some dust however your home is left as neat and tidy as it was found, with carefully crafted smooth walls ready for decorating.
Dry lining is a popular way of adjoining plasterboard to surfaces including masonry, wood or metal. Fixings are used which are appropriate to the surface the plasterboard is to be attached to.
‘Dot and Dab' is the technique often adopted when putting a dry lining onto masonry surfaces. An adhesive is used to attach the plasterboard to the wall. This adhesive is attached to the wall in a solid perimeter dab to help with air loss and around any electrical sockets and door openings. The plasterboard is then carefully pushed onto the dabbed adhesive and checked for level and line.
Tacking is often regarded as a more straightforward process and involves dry-lining onto timber or metal stud walls and ceilings. Once the plasterboard has been cut to size, it is adjoined to the timber or metal ceiling or stud walls with drywall screws.
This plasterboard can then be skimmed or taped and jointed. The former involves our plastering contractors skimming over the entire surface to create a smooth finish. With joint taping, the tapered edges of the plasterboard are taped with jointing tape and then filled with joint filling compound, alomng with any screw holes. Joint cement can then be applied and sanded to a smooth finish.

Andy has plastered my bathroom and kitchen and has made an excellent job of both. He is honest and reliable, so much so that I left him the key to the house so that he could do the work whilst we were out. Definitely use him again, he is the best platererer I have used, and that has been many over the years! Colin M

After being given A&G's phone number by a kitchen manufacture, I was really happy that they turned up on time and without delay. After using them for eighteen months they still turn up with the shortest notice and always do a excellent clean and tidy job no matter what time in the night they finish. I would definitely recommend and continue to use
