Tasty indeed - and great value!

We've lived in Newark for three years but never before tried this cafe, normally just going a few doors down to Gannets for a light bite or over the road to Cafe Bleu for a full blown gutbashing of the finest order. Last weekend, though, we broke habit and decided to try Feeling Peckish for a cuppa. We also decided to share a cheese and ham toastie just to keep the cold out. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor and cleanliness of the place - it'd always looked a bit scruffy and dowdy from the outside. The service was friendly and timely and the pot of tea a decent size for two. The nicest surprise of all was the tanginess and tastiness of the cheese and pleasant saltiness of the ham in the toasty - we'd expecting something dull and bland and just to be warmed. It came with a huge pile of delicious homemade coleslaw and other side salad favourites so were even more pleased. The owner was clearly very friendly and chatty with others coming into and leaving the place with whom he appeared to be familiar. Sadly, as were not regulars, we didn't get the warm treatment as we left and in fact he didn't even make eye contact as I paid and dropped a tip into the pot set there for the purpose on the counter. Perhaps one has to earn his familiarity to get the warmth we saw him show to others. This is why the place gets 4 instead of 5 stars from us, but we'd certainly recommend it and be back soon to see if familiarity breeds warmth!
