Burnfoot The Magical Place

This was one of the comments made by a Guest who stayed with us this year and I would have to agree. Our Guest House lies in the Coquetvale Valley, surrounded by fields and meadows, bubbling streams and forest.Miles from the large towns, we have no pollution to cloud over the spectacular array of stars, which are visible in our sky. The Milky way can plainly be see on clear, dark nights and a sight to behold.Northumberland is a special place, villages are small and a few miles apart, but in between there is scenery and views to die for and a photograph never captures all the beauty.I love running this Guest House and have so many special people stay. They may come as guests but quite a few leave as good friends and over the last two years, I have been grateful for their company. We aren't 'posh' or 5 star but I pride myself on the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, especially the beds. How many times have you stayed somewhere and not been able to sleep because the bed has been so uncomfortable. We never get complaints about noise either, it is so quiet, I sometimes find clocks put into drawers or in bathrooms, because the ticking has been too loud.Food quality matters to me and fresh produce is the order of the day. Breakfasts are hearty and we serve our special sausage which we have made, really nice bacon and fresh laid eggs. A bowl of fresh tropical fruit is always offered along with yoghurts, porridge and cinnamon and raisin bread.I've been told that I am a bit of a character and take that as a compliment. My welcome and smile are genuine and Bob and I always said, if we opened our home to guests, it would be with a warm welcome and I haven't let him down yet.I believe I give value for money, guests are offered the same as in other accommodation that may charge as much as £20 more per night but then they don't have me as a bonus.I allow dogs and they are allowed in the rooms but ask that owner's respect some of the conditions I set, not only for their comfort but their pet. I don't allow them to be left in the rooms whilst owner's are out. I have had too many dogs fret and then starting chewing and clawing and it isn't pleasant to hear them barking and whining, upsets me too.Burnfoot is the ideal place to stay, we are in the heart of Northumberland, so wherever you want to visit, the coast, Hadrian's wall, Alnwick, Keilder or even the border, Edinburgh and Newcastle, they can all be reached within half an hour to an hour.

Northumberland Enjoy the experience

Most people who visit Northumberland for the first time get quite a surprise. The County is wild and has vast open spaces, which are interspersed with small, quaint villages and Hamlets. The town of Alnwick is perhaps the largest, the two main streets circling round the castle, probably as in times of old. The Castle dominates the area, sitting upon a hill with the river running below.Rothbury is not so much a town but a large village with such an array and variety of shops and not a supermarket in site, yet all our needs are met. Above the town sits Cragside House and Estate, this was the first house to be lit by electricity and has been one of the more popular places to visit in recent times. From here it is around an hours drive to Newcastle and Gateshead, Hexham and Hadrians wall and Edinburgh. Berwick and the Borders about 40 minutes drive on scenic, quiet roads. Here we are spoilt, we have miles of beautiful coast, with castles that once stood watch for invaders. Forests, woods, wildlife in abundance, hills, where once stood stone and bronze age villages, only accessible by walking or horse riding. Roman settlements abound and the famous wall of Hadrian. The Gardens and stately homes, Churches, museums and our own local village shows can all be enjoyed. It is a unique area, where the scenery can take your breath away and after one visit, will want to come back again.
