Golden Fleece is York's Most Haunted pub, thus one of the England's most haunted sites. Visit the Oldest Inn in York and you can be sure of a friendly atmosphere, quiet surroundings and traditional services.
A really cozy little pub with friendly staff and nice beer. The heat lamps in the beer garden are nearly hot enough to melt your hair but it saves getting cold when having a cigarette. Worth a visit when visiting York. My girlfriend nearly booked a room before the visit. She says she is now glad she didnt as she would of been to frightened to sleep in case a ghost appeared.

This was the first time in a long while that I had a pint of beer that was totally undrinkable. The yukka plant in the rear garden received virtually the whole contents of my glass such was my disgust at the dishwater that passed for Timothy Taylors Landlord.Alright it was a quiet Sunday night & I know that TTL is a pale shadow of it's former self, which is a crime in itself, but to then serve a warm, cloudy, acetyl mess of a pint is unforgivable. The Golden Fleece is now run like many pubs, on the basis that food will pay the bills. My own view is the lazy licensee should get his finger out and clean his beer lines because all of his draught beers were the same hazy mess. He obviously works on the premise that there are enough tourists in the world that he doesn't need return visits and this was backed up by the fact that there were no regulars visible anywhere.I went around the corner to The Blue Bell and got the complete opposite - a crystal clear, well kept, cool pint of TTL that was very acceptable - ON A SUNDAY !!!2 pubs seperated by 100 yds in distance and a million miles in quality...

The bar staff here are very friendly and make you feel very welcome in this quaint pub with a cosy atmosphere. The decor is lovely, not scruffy at all, and the locals are very chatty.
