The Light of India is next to the Westminster Bridge on Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port. Always seems to have a lot of repeat customers, and the staff seem to know many of their names/favourites etc. It has been open for donkeys years and was the first in the area to introduce the 'Special Banquet'/ Happy Hour or whatever they're calling it! It runs from opening time (5.30 ish) through to 10pm, Seven days a week. The 'special' is priced at around £9 and consists of popadoms and chutneys, a starter, a main dish with rice, a side dish, ice-cream/ banana fritter and a liqueur coffee. Yep! Thats quite a feast for less than a tenner. The food has always been of a good standard with generous portions. The drinks' prices are not TOO inflated either. There is a LOT of competition in the area from The Agra Fort, Saffron Delight etc., many of whom are also offering special deals too. What lets the Light of India down is its small size and poor layout. There are booths down one side of the restaurant and tables squished together on the other. When it gets busy, there is sometimes only an inch or two between you and the next table.Overall its a bit of a marmite place- you love it or you hate it... I'm still not sure! if its a special occassion I would 'splash out' on the Saffron instead.
