Barbara's of Standish was established in 1976 and back then was just a one-roomed shop with a small fitting room. Over the years Barbara expanded the business and it now has a large retail shopping area covering approximately 70 square yards, and a welcoming, warm fitting room, where you can try the clothes at your leisure. In February 2003, when Barbara retired, the business was taken over by her daughter Denise Coyle and the labels have since been expanded further. Barbara's supplies beautiful outfits for the Mother of the Bride and Groom and for guests at weddings but also has a large range of original casual wear.
The shop has a light, airy feel and is well designed for browsing. Denise and her staff will offer all the help and advice you require, but pride themselves on achieving a balanced atmosphere where you are always allowed to browse at your leisure if you prefer. There is a resident tailoress, Sue Holt, who is available for any alterations required and if you have private alterations these can also be attended to. In September 2008 Barbara's opened a new Shoe and Handbag Department at 13 High Street, just a few hundred yards away from the main fashion store. This has proved a great success with our customers as we stock shoes to match both our occasion wear and our casual outfits. The shop is packed with shoes, bags, jewellery, scarves, bag accessories and many unusual gifts - its just like being in a 'Toffee Shop'. It is certainly worth a trip to Barbara's, whether you are looking for something for that special occasion or suddenly decide 'It's Friday and I just need something new!!!'.
