Best Place to Eat in Heysham

The title may sound as if I am damning Squirrels with faint praise, as Heysham is not a Mecca for foodies. We have always enjoyed our meals here. It is a small Bistro in the scenic old village. Open lunchtimes and some evenings [just Saturdays at the moment]. The short menu has things like Steaks, Fish, Roast Duck and does traditional Sunday Lunches. The food is not sophisticated, just hearty and good.The place probably only has 6-7 tables, with some on the pavement for when it is not raining. The size leads to an intimate feel and you will almost certainly be visited at your table by the chef/owner. Squirrels is not Licensed, but there are a Tesco and a Co-op within 600 yards. Prices are OK- about £14 for a T-Bone with all trimmings- but bringing your own booze makes for a cheap night out. Always ring and book if thinking of going in the evening.
