Surly Strada
I visited the Tunbridge Wells Strada restaurant recently with two companions. There were plenty of staff and few other diners, so service should have been excellent. There was a long wait for our drinks, which were eventually plonked unceremoniously in front of us. After a very long wait, our bread was delivered to our table cold, along with an empty bowl. The waiter then vanished for approximately twenty five minutes. Our olives did not arrive. The waiter then brought our main courses. I asked if the shreds of unidentified meat on the salad in front of me was bacon. He replied in the affirmative, and I told him that I had ordered the vegetarian salad. The waiter left the meat in front of me, went off and fetched a menu, and asked me to point at the salad that I had ordered; he stood in front of me reading the menu descriptionbefore announcing that I should not have been given bacon! I had to prompt him into replacing it for the correct dish, which arrived after a very long wait, by which time my companions' food had turned cold! My salad arrived in a dish containing one small plum tomato, sliced coarsely into five pieces, one small ball of mozzarella sliced into four pieces, and half an avocado sliced into five pieces was placed in front of me without apology. I could have prepared the same dish in twenty seconds, and I could even have added a dressing in that time! No one came to ask us whether our meals were satisfactory, or to offer us more drinks.Our empty plates were left in front of us for long after we had finished eating. The staff could be heard giggling and chatting at the pass. They were not busy. We were then left for over half an hour. We were not offered dessert menus. Eventually a waitress presented us with the bill, despite the fact that we had not asked for it. We asked her to take the bill away and bring us dessert menus instead. She did so, but did not return for a long time to ask whether we wanted to order desserts. By the time she returned, we had decided that we no longer had time to eat desserts, so we asked for the bill.Another staff member, possibly a manageress, came to take our payment and asked us whether we had enjoyed the meal. We told her that we had found the service appalling, and she intimated that the waiter serving us should not have been allowed to serve people yet since his standards were not high enough. She took approximately eight pounds off our bill. Strangely, we were given a two-for-one promotional voucher, despite informing her that under no circumstances do we ever plan to return to Strada again.I complained to Head Office. They never replied. Unforgivable!

Scrumptuous Strada
I love this place. The restaurant is a good size and there isn't any of that hemmed in feeling. The waiters are really patient, friendly and it doesn't take long for the food to arrive. There is a good selection of meals to pick from – I for one love to start with the pesto bread with a selection of olives. Lots of pizzas which are enormous but you can also have salmon or chicken if desired. There are often meal deals and cheaper lunch ranges. Summer dinning is a treat – the windows are opened and outside world let in. In the evenings there is a romantic atmosphere with the candle light and nice décor. Highly recommended.
