I just had to say what an amazing place this restaurant is, the food and service were just perfect! I can't believe that Rochester Man thought that the Crown serves better food! Unbelievably shocking to try to compare the 2!Topes has a wonderful warm ambience and fab food and the crown fried chips etc! Incomparable!!I cannot wait to go back to Topes!!

Have been back on numerous occasions and it still does the job. 2 rosettes and counting, so the AA inspectors can't be wrong. No other place in Rochester has that accolade. Keep up the good work and can't wait to the next menu change/installment

Topes is a breath of fresh air, the current management have done wonders over the past few years to get it up to standard, I still remember what it was like before they took it over (juk). The staff are courteous, attentive and charming the food is inventive and seasonal. I have read the other reviews regarding this place with a mixed bag; I have also live in the town for well over 20 years and only found out about this site when the youngest mentioned it. Rochesterman101 seems to be deluded please pray tell where these great restaurants are, I would welcome more fine establishments to choose from. Adrian4091 is right 2 rosettes what more can you say??

Having dined out throughout London and the Home Counties for more years than I care to remember, it is always with a great sense of delight that I find a restaurant that surpasses all my expectations both in terms of food quality, ambiance and service. Having arranged to meet friends from Bray (for all you food lovers you will understand which restaurants they have there) to walk around the beautiful town we chanced upon Topes. The menu was fantastically seasonal, very busy (which is always a good indicator) and friendly. We settled in at the front of the restaurant on the very nice table next to the window and started: the two girls as always were not hungry until they spied the food going to other tables and very quickly decided that they would indulge (just this once) in having a starter 1 x potted crab with home made bread, roast beetroot salad (beetroot from the owners garden – fantastic. We the lads settled for the home cured ham - ask the chef to show it, it's a magnificent leg. Followed by two bream so fresh it still could be flapping and still following with the meaty theme rump of lamb all plates were cleared with great abundance and enthusiasm. Choc torte and crème brulée for the girls, English cheese for us (a sneaky glass of port also). What a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon, we liked the restaurant that much that have decided to visit as often as possible. Well worth the 30 min drive (even though petrol is so expensive) the restaurant prices compensate us for this and it offers which many other Rochester places don't – soul and passion. Well worth he two AA rosettes it has been awarded
