This pub is wonderful....for a drink! The atmosphere is brilliant, log fires (multiple!), sofas, books, friendly nice staff. They welcome dogs but don't welcome children which we found lovely and a nice change (as dog owners!). The food however is pretty rough. We have been there about four times now so have given it over a period of a year to impress and have sampled most of the usual dishes. Sadly have not had one good meal. Massive portions but none of them taste nice! Whatever that sauce / gravy is they put on that lamb shank thing is, sweet / sour gloup?? I don't know, nasty stuff. The roast potatoes are frozen oven baked affairs. The veg invariably is tinned or frozen. Even our dog turned his nose up at some of it which was a first!! Such a shame. I wouldn't mind if it was a fiver a head but most dishes average £9 to £10 or so. If they could sort out the food perhaps using the abundance of locally grown veg around etc, the place would be an out and out winner.
