Disappointing!
We went to Joe Daflo's following a graduation ceremony at the Guildhall, arriving mid-afternoon. Service was slow to say the least, yet the restaurant was pretty empty. Food was generally OK although it took more than 30 minutes to arrive, and then took more than 5 minutes between the first and the last of the the main courses arriving. We had to ask for the bill, received it and were still sitting waiting to pay it 10 minutes later. Would not recommend, would not go back, which is a shame as the place itself is great. It is let down by the staff and service.

Good food, but a bit chilly!
I went here for my work Christmas party, so there was a big group of us (and there was at least one other big group in for the same reason that night). The place is very nice - an old converted church with high ceilings, beams, and an upper area for eating. It's been done up very nicely but I have to say that as with a lot of places, the toilets let it down - they are pretty outdated, and could do with an overhaul.The staff were helpful, although I felt the service was a bit too slow. There were gaps between the courses, the plates from the previous course were not cleared until just before the next course and also the different menu items all came out at once...so all the duck mains came out first, then the turkey and so on...I had duck which arrived first and had almost finished by the time my partners lamb had arrive (Half of us had started already as it was taking so long).The food was very tasty, and the portion sizes were good, but they don't seem quite up to speed when catering for large groups as parts of my meal were lukewarm when it arrived rather than hot.Other than that, the place was really pretty chilly. I purposely sat beside the large radiators against the wall only to find out they were not on and there was a small hole in the window letting in the cold air! I think someone else must have mentioned the temperature as the waitress brought a fan heater, but she couldn't find a plug so it got plugged in downstairs which made no difference to us. Overall, the food is good, but they haven't perfected large groups yet - I'd probably choose to go elsewhere for a Christmas night next year as the price was a bit steep for what we got.

Stunning place to eat and drink Joe Daflos!
Having never visited Southampton I asked for a recommendation on where to eat - the one I got, Joe Daflos, didn't dissapoint. I entered the converted church and was stunned by the huge wooden bar that greeted me and went on for miles to the top of the building, shelves stacked with wines! Then the stain glass windows that added to the buzzy atmosphere that was bouncing off the walls on all x2 levels - had never had such a 'unique' dining experience. Service was friendly and efficient and food was delicious, (especially the homemade lasagne!) and very reasonable. Could see why the locals were stuck to the bar after work, if this was my local i'd live there too! A must!
