I used to eat out in Southampton a lot. I mean it got to the point that when I was single I'd go out with a different friend every night of the week. When I discovered Buon Gusto I loved it so much I went there with 4 different girls over the course of a month then when I started dating Sarah I took her there as well. This led to an uncomfortable situation with smirks being exchanged between the waitresses and then a glance at me as if to say “so does she know she's not the only girl you've bought here”. Fortunately they are discreet! A nice touch came when instead of offering me the wine list the waitress simply said "the Pinot Grigio sir?" Very good. My favourite. But anyway, the point of my story is this: Buon Gusto is THE best place to eat out in Southampton. I could eat there every night of the week if my wallet would allow it. Its not cheap but the quality more than matches the price. Bravo.

As this place is a little way out of the centre of town it is often a little quieter at times and so easier to get a table. It is worth a mention though that the theatre is just down the road from here and it does get busy pre-show time but book a slightly later time and you should be fine! The staff here are very polite and knowledgeable about the food that they serve and the service is great. One of the times we went we were offered a free glass each of chilled limoncello by the manager (and a refill) which was a lovely gesture. I would recommend this for families, it's not lively and is a relaxed atmosphere with good italian food.

Busy!

Came here on a group night out, and was impressed with the quality of the food and wine. However, it was busy, and thus service was slower than would normally be accepted. It caters for the pre -theatre diners as Southampton's Mayflower theatre is just down the road. The restaurant is proud of it's links to the theatre and in the Ladies toilet at least (can't vouch for the Men's!) there is a range of framed photos displayed of actors/ actresses who have dined at Buon Gusto and a selection of posters advertising past shows that have been performed there. The menu is a range of Italian dishes, such as pizza, pasta etc (as you would expect). I dined with a friend who is a coeliac, but fortunately he ordered rissotto which was gluten free and delicious.

a nice night out

Ate here with my partner and after mixed reviews we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant seems to be undergoing a revamp as part of the eating area has been decorated - i'm wondering whether this revamp includes the food as the meal we had was delicious. A beautiful fillet steak and the chicken in white wine sauce for mains with an AMAZING banoffee pie for desert - delicious. In my experience the staff were friendly and courteous, i think the only thing that needs to be altered are the small upstairs toilets. All in all a nice night out.
