Great food, great service

You always get service with a smile, The atmosphere is good, with traditional Indian music. I have been using this restaurant for many years, the quality of food and serivce has always remained constant, Lee makes an excellent host. For those of you who like a good Indian meal with all the trimmings this place is a must. If you can't get a babysitter, don't want to cook, they do a home delivery service, give it a try, you won't regret it!

NOT as good as Kuti's

Sorry all - Bitterne Balti is nothing like as good as Kuti's and if you go there with that expectation you will be very disappointed. Having said that.. it's ok.. but no more than ok... good prices and friendly atmosphere with a bit of a buz. Tiinned vegetables (spinach in particular... yuk) would not be found at Kuti's -- and dry, over-cooked chicken (possibly re-heated) and overcooked potatoes with tinned chick peas are not the mark of top level indian cuisine. We waited more than an hour for our main course to be served too. Not great but ok for a walk up the road and cheap enough.

Simply the Best

If you enjoy Indian food, then eat at the best Balti restaurant in Southampton. Punching above it's weight, this small jewel of an indian bistro, is located in the trendy Bitterne triangle. Freshly prepared food, each meal cooked individualy to your requirements by an authentic indian chef, dedicated to infuse your palate with a wonderful food experience. The staff are the friendliest you will be likely to find and will go through any dish and discuss ingredients. They will change, add or prepare a dish not on the menu to your specific taste. Once youve tried the culinary experience, you will be disappointed elsewhere.

Bitterne Balti is Bitterne Park's Jewel of India. If you like the food at Kuti's then this is not as good, it's BETTER! You are always served with a smile, the staff are friendly and attentive. Give It a Try!

Decent indian food at reasonable prices - eat in and take away. Always busy, and more pleasant to sit in now the smoking ban is in place. Thier Nans and their Lime Pickles are both excellent.

best Indian restaurant in Southampton

The Bitterne Balti has to be the best Indian restaurant around. The food is ecellent every time I eat there. The chefs specials are all brilliant- and i've tried nearly everything on the menu! The staff are kind and pleasant, and they now have Cobra on draught too. If you want to try some fantastic food one night, go there! I agree that the weekends are quite tough if you want a table, so maybe try a weekday- or just get there earlier! Also, the take away standard is just as high as when you eat in, so living close by, if i can't get a table, i get a take away instead. I recommend the Murgha Charga- sweet and almondy, it's lovely. The chef is willing to cook anything you ask for, try it, i did and it paid off- now i have my curries just how i like them.

Anyone thinking of trying somewhere new for a night out at and Indian restaurant will not be dissapointed if they give this place a chance, I have eaten here for years and have always been very pleased with the quality of every meal I've had, and I've tried all sorts too. The people who run and work there are always friendly and pleasant. Give them a try - you won't regret it.

Bitterne Balti - good food, service and price

It's in an unfashionable part of town but the BB is one of my favourite 'Indian' restaurants in and around Southampton. It is a small restaurant which seems to have a regular clientel and this gives it a homely atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and friendly and the service is faultless. This restaurant was recommended to us some years ago and we have visited many times. (I believe it may have changed hands once or twice over the years but the standard has been maintained). Because it is so small it is sometimes difficult to find a table - particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. As far as the menu is concerned, it's standard fare but well prepared and presented - I would recommend the Chefs Specials. Good food served with a smile at a very reasonable price - and Kingfisher on draft. What more could you want?
