The new Head teacher has a tough act to follow. With the love and support that the previous Head engendered among her staff, parents and pupils, the loyalty transplant will be difficult, but not impossible to achieve. The main area s of progression will come from the existing staff, and the parents of children already at the school; support of the aims and ethos of the school has to be such that most are prepared to give extra time and effort to support and extend their own children, and encourage others to do the same. If responsibility for improvements is left to others, then standards may drop; the future starts now, and involves all stakeholders in the school. What would not go amiss is a considerable improvement to the school fabric. It is looking a tad tatty around the edges; windows, doors not fitting or leaking; a coat or two of paint costs so little to give a pleasing effect. Despite this minor defect, you cannot hide quality. And St Jude's is a quality school with super teachers, delivering very high quality standards of care and education for all the boys and girls who are lucky enough, as I was, to attend such a beacon primary school.
