This has recently been taken over and done up and I have to say it looks spectacular and it really makes you want to go in! They have tables out the front over looking the square, then as you walk in the door your eyes are drawn to the most attractive display of wonderful looking cakes! There is ample room inside, with mostly tables and chairs, but also a few sofas, and an additional area upstairs. The building is very old, and it has been done up in keeping with it's age, so that it looks like a lovely traditional building, but with a lovely contemporary twist! The breakfasts that other people were eating looked great, but cake is what I went for, so cake it was that I ordered (and an iced latte). The latte was good, but the cake (I think it was vanilla fudge cake or something similar) was somewhat disappointing. It looked great, but didn't meet my expectations. The sponge was a bit on the dry, crumbly side - not light and airy as I had expected. And the fudge icing was sickly sweet, fudge coloured, but didn't really taste at all fudgey. It did rather remind me of the "fudge flavoured" topping that you often get on service station bought muffins/flapjacks etc which was a real let down after the build up!I'd certainly go back again - its such a lovely place to let one below par cake put me off. Perhaps they were having an off day?!
