At Foxburrow Grange, the specialist nursing and dementia care home in Colchester, Essex, we believe life is for living and we are dedicated to helping our residents enjoy it to the full. Nursing Care at Foxburrow Grange

We care for people with a wide range of nursing needs and it's important that the care delivered is of the highest standard. And we've set the bar high. We have all the qualifications and experience to provide excellence in nursing care, but all this means nothing if you haven't got a heart.

* Experts in care *
Whether it's rehabilitation from stroke, support following a hip fracture or joint replacement or help to regain mobility and confidence after a fall or surgery, we can help. Our staff, together with visiting health professionals, will work with residents to increase self-reliance and independence.

* 24-hour nursing care *
We can provide round-the-clock specialist nursing care for those long term conditions that cannot be managed at home. This includes, but is not limited to, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic heart disease, severe arthritis, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and diabetes.

* Abbey Field Medical Centre*
Unusually for a care home, the GPs at Abbey Field Medical Centre, opposite Foxburrow Grange, make weekly visits to oversee resident care. Residents of Foxburrow Grange will need to be registered as patients with the Centre to receive this care.
Holistic palliative residential care

We know most people would wish to spend their last days at home with their family but this is not always possible. We provide compassionate end of life care, supporting all their physical and spiritual needs, in a calm environment and where families are welcome to stay.

Dementia Care at Foxburrrow Grange

There are many different kinds of dementia of which Alzheimer's disease is the most common. Dementia affects memory, thinking, problem-solving, concentration and perception. It's also progressive and we take measures that have a beneficial effect on the life experiences of our residents at whatever stage they have reached. By providing individualised care, we support them so they are able to get the most from each day.

We have designed activities to help maintain mental and physical function, as well as social skills. We want to encourage participation, friendship and fun so that residents feel more confident and independent and have a real sense of pride in their achievements.

Our nurses and health care assistants have been specifically chosen because of their real interest in working with people with dementia. They have excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills and their goal is to involve each dementia resident in all aspects of the day.

We have also signed the Dementia Pledge which demonstrates that we aspire to the best quality care for people with Dementia. We care about developing our understanding of dementia and creating an environment that meets the needs of each individual.

* Life story *
A vital part of our work is in understanding each resident's life story. We work closely with relatives and friends to do this and, should a resident demonstrate behaviour that we don't understand, we look to the life story work and that helps us enter their reality.

Foxburrow Grange Colchester. Community Hub

In addition to providing specialist nursing and dementia care, Foxburrow Grange is also a community hub. This means we welcome our local friends, residents' families, schools and voluntary organisations to drop in and say hello. We provide a range of specialist services that can be used by both residents and non-residents alike.
Activities

We also run a range of activities on each wing that are both fun and interesting, from gardening and baking to games and quizzes. We also have entertainers who come to visit us every month.

Hairdressing
Our hairdresser is available for a cut and blow dry, set or short back and sides. (Booking in advance is advisable.)

Physiotherapy
Working with Allied Health Professionals, we are able to provide on-site physiotherapy sessions.

Sensory room
Our fully-equipped sensory room can provide gentle stimulation of the primary senses, promote a feeling of well-being and help communication with people who are unable to express their
