have to disagree with last review, have visited a couplke of times and always found ALL staff extremely helpful and great service, food is good too, its not Michelin star but good pub fare in a great location. Shame some parents seem to have a lack of supervision of their children, who seem to think the idea of siting in the garden for a drink and ignoring theirs kids is a given nowadays

Manager prefers dogs to children

Lovely setting, fantastic garden, that's about all I can say in its favour. The food is not good, overly processed and everything we ate today tasted like it came from a can or had just been nuked in an industrial microwave. Worst of all, it's a family pub that seems to actively dislike families and small children. The manager is moody and unhelpful, he refused to provide sun umbrellas for outside tables during a rain shower claiming there weren't any, which is untrue as we have seen umbrellas there before. His staff seem actively afraid of him and told us the evening food menu would start serving half an hour late because the manager was having one of his strops! On another occasion he shouted from an open window, face purple and puce with rage, yelling at the kids outside to play more quietly. Clearly he wishes he'd been born in the Victorian era when children were seen not heard. The overriding problem with this place is that it wants to see itself as a posh, fine dining establishment, when in truth it's no more than a very average pub-grub joint. If they embraced the family market with a little more generosity and appreciation it would be a much better place. And five pounds for a plate of kids pasta with nasty tomato sauce from a jar is a rip off.

Nearly a year since I last visited, so time for an update. The normal menu seemed unchanged. The specials board had a choice of 3 roasts being a Sunday.Food arrived piping hot and with decent potions. All the dishes were well received by our party. The Purbeck icecream was very nice for pud.Service had improved - they were busy and informed us in advance of the wait for food which turned out to be sooner than advised. It's certainly better to be told rather than keeping you guessing and glancing at your watch.Overall - still recommended.

Hangleton Manor is the 2nd oldest building in Brighton and Hove and is said to be haunted (by a customer still waiting to be served?)I have eaten here a number of times in the last year and the food has always been good. The menu has changed a few times, sometimes for the better, but sometimes for the worse. It's always a subjective thing depending on your tastes.Service this time had a lot to be desired - it has definitely deteriorated. The menu selection is also not as good as it was.The food was cooked and presented very well and is value for money. As a pub it's nice in the summer with a nice rear lawn and seating.
