About

The Chaseley Trust is a unique, independent charity owned Nursing Home located in sunny Eastbourne, on the south coast of England, next to the stunning South Downs

The Chaseley Trust was established in 1946 by Dr Ludwig Guttman to care for Military personnel returning from the Second World War with spinal injuries. Dr Guttman, who initiated the Stoke Mandeville Games, which later became the Paralympic Games, believed that injured veterans should not be defined by their disabilities and deserved to live a full and active life. We now provide our facilities and services to all adults who have significant disabilities regardless of their military background.

We are a unique, independent charity owned, 55-bed home based in Eastbourne and specialise in long-term nursing, respite and rehabilitative care for people with complex disabilities, such as Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and degenerative neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone and Parkinson's disease.

Our multi-disciplinary approach to care and rehabilitation includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and recreational activities and we ensure our person-centred approach is focused on individuals regaining as much independence as possible, so that their psychological well-being and emotional balance are maintained. In addition to this our facilities included an on-site, fully accessible gym specifically designed for people who are disabled and living in the community.

Whilst Chaseley may seem like a large charity, we really are the small charity next door and our residents come from across the country due to the specialist nursing and rehabilitation we offer individuals with neurological disabilities and progressive diseases.

The main source of our funding comes from residents' fees, which cover the cost of their care package and contributes to the daily running costs of the home. Various commissioning bodies fund the majority of resident care packages and we have just 5% surplus to fund all our additional costs, including the upkeep of our beautiful building, upgrading our equipment, and to provide the extra social and recreational activities and services that enhance the comfort and well-being of our residents, which is why we rely on donations and fundraising.

Testimonials

We moved our mother to The Chaseley Trust so we could be nearer to her as we know our time with her is limited. We also wanted her to be somewhere lively so she could have more interaction. Mum has been at Chaseley since the end of September and the difference is really noticeable. Firstly, she receives a really really high standard of care and the care team are dedicated, supportive and very nurturing with her. Secondly, to watch the activities team weave their magic with the residents is truly inspiring - they are amazing. It is very humbling to watch them in action. We, as a family feel our mum is in the best place to finish out her last years. Thank you all.

The Chaseley Trust does a wonderful job in caring for its residents with top quality professional standards and a spirit of joy and happiness. The attention to providing activities for residents through outstanding staff is highly commendable. Their communication with and reception of families and other visitors is really excellent.
