We have just returned home from one of the worst visits to any restaurant ever! and thats saying something. We decided to visit the plymouth restaurant as we have done on numerous occasions before. We waited for around 5 minutes for a table which was fine but this is where it began to go wrong. The restaurant was busy as you would expect on a saturday evening but there were some empty tables. The time taken to place the order was around 10 minutes which seemed like a long time and drinks were 5-10 minutes after that. We ordered our food in one go and began to wait. We chose to order a starter of garlic bread and when this arrived it we were disappointed. It was dry, slightly burnt, ruined by a mass of parsley and didn't appear or taste like it had any garlic in it. We didnt feel like we wanted to make a fuss so we decided to wait in anticipation for out pizza's. Almost an hour later still nothing. The waitress saw that we were getting fed up and came over and apologised and said it was in the oven. We decided to wait 15 minutes more. This came and went so we called the waitress over. She was very defensive saying it was not her fault it was the kitchen and that if we had been seated quicker than we would of had our food quicker??? i thought this would be the case as normally those who sit down first generally get their order first unless you train your staff differently. We were not happy with her explanation and she offered no resolution to the situation so asked to speak to the manager who we had seen walking around. When she didnt come over we put on our coats and walked to the exit. The waitress was at the kitchen and the manager was taking pizza's to tables. The clue is in the title, "Manager" and im unsure how its possible to manage whilst waiting tables. So we simply walked out vowing never to return. I feel that if the manager had been doing her job instead of one of a waitress maybe she could see people waiting chins on hands? We spoke the party of 6 opposite who ordered just before us and were also fed up of waiting. it was obvious there was a problem. All in all our visit was about an hour and a half in the restaurant alone plus 40 minutes travel, cost £2.20 for parking and probably at least the same for our wasted 25 mile round trip in fuel. The food we had was lousy, along with the time we had to wait. In fact the only thing that was any good was the coke we had and my company. I would have expected to have been told about this wait before i ordered. I did not expect to eat a supermarket pizza from the freezer which for your information took 10 minutes to cook and came to my table promptly with no excuses. My advise... dont bother with this branch!

Have never really had a bad experince in this Pizza express, the venue is located just outside the heart of the main city centre and is always clean and tidy. The service is pretty good and the team are bubbly and friendly but I agree with the other poster about the venue sometimes being under staffed but this does happen in places like this. The food is good, if you are large pizza eater you will find you should get a starter and possibly a side to share - I cant remember the name of the pizza I have but it has an egg in the middle and tastes great. It is worth a visit but not really a kids place in my opion they are better off in Pizza Hut

Me and my family have been visiting this Pizza Express since we moved to Plymouth 10 years ago - back when the city's idea of a classy night out was a yard long hot dog at Captain Jaspers. We've never had a duff meal, the staff are always friendly and professional and its one of the only places I'm always happy to leave a big tip. A couple of niggles: for some reason, it can often be freezing cold; and the puddings are very expensive. We always bribe the kids with the promise of an ice cream from a local openallhours rather than pay a hefty price for an (undeliably delicious) pizza express pud.

We are frequent visitors to this particular Pizza express, very clean, both front of house and in the toilet area as well. Lunch times are fairly quiet, evenings tend to be very busy and bookings are recommended. we normally have dough balls for starter and always have an american hot for main course. Service is usually fast but sometimes they are understaffed. but this is normal in the restaurant industry as you are unsure how many people to expect through the doors. ideally get a table by the window for maximum relaxation. Overall a good place to visit if are visiting Plymouth for the day or a longer period.
