We spent the day in Padstow in August against my wishes as I've never taken to the place as it doesn't have the clarm of a typical seaside town but is crowded with expensive shops and restaurants. We were effectively forced into the place as everywhere else was crammed (as they usually are) and an alarm bell should have gone off as the place was only half full. I even joked that there must be something wrong with it as we could find a seat. It looks ok inside but the menu looked a bit on the expensive side so I ordered the cheapest main course which was a Cornish pasty and salad at £5.95 and since I've had these before elsewhere and been happy with them I thought nothing of it.When it came I was pretty shocked as all I got was something resembling a Small Ginsters, browning lettuce and a soft tomato. At first I thought I'd been sent a starter by mistake but my partner gestured to the table to my left where the poor bloke had ordered a ploughmans and ended up with what looked like the contents of those awful Boots sandwiches. We made eye contact and words were not necessary as he saw my plate. The kids got a decent plate of chips as we objected to paying more but the jacket potato that the missus ordered wasn't great either. There was at least one other person that I saw that looked upset with their lot before we left.Having read the other reviews it is obvious that out visit wasn't a one-off and that worries me as the owner is either deluding him/herself into thinking that their place offers a really good product or they are assuming that there will be enough people that will only ever visit once to make the place pay irrespective of reputation.Either way, if you're the owner, shame on you.

LIke a motorway services decked out in old fashioned nautical attire in the middle of lovely Padstow. Service was awful. Prices even worse. We only went in because we really wanted a Dover Sole, ok the price was expensive... but worse than all of this my Girlfriend ended up with FOOD POISIONING from said Dover Sole. Awful place. Avoid.

Do not eat in the restaurant

This restaurant is completely overpriced!!!! We paid £116.95 for 7 people and we would have had a better meal in asda for a 3rd of the price. We were drawn in by the very lovely looking homemade puddings in the counter at the entrance, yes we were fooled but won't be again. The food was dreadful. Supposed to be freshly perpared and homemade and it was economy meals at high prices. My husband orderered a mixed grill that cost £14.95 the plate was piled high with mushrooms and not much else. one onion ring a small piece of bacon, a sausage and a tiny chop, then this ginormous economy burger.. disgusting

One to avoid

This restaurant looks OK from the outside but is hugely overpriced and the food is appalling. It has a huge menu with about 100 different choices on it (this should have set alarm bells ringing!) which can't possibly be freshly prepared. Most of it must be microwaved. We went for the 'freshly grilled fish' option (at about £20 per head). I should have noted that the menu was careful not to state 'fresh fish'. When it arrived it was overcooked, had been allowed to go cold and was quite rubbery in texture. The fish was served with chips which were OK but we had to buy vegetables seperately as a side order (for £4.00). We were presented with a few bits of old (slightly brown) looking cauliflower, inedible and limp brocolli with carrots which were completely tasteless (I think these came from a tin). The staff at least had the good grace to take these off the bill when we complained. They also charge £1.50 for a childs blackcurrant squash and £5 for a bottle of water. On the menu, it is made clear that none of the items contain GM products. However, I think the management of this restaurant should be more worried about the fact that they are serving virtually inedible food that would be overpriced at half the amount we paid. This is a restaurant pretending to be something it's not. One to avoid.....

This restaurant is highly over priced and the quality of food is less than desirable. Paid nearly £6 for a small glass of wine which was like water. My fish pie was the worst I've ever eaten. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant and it certainly lets Padstow and it's other high quality restaurants down.

Lovely restaurant in the heart of Padstow

The Clipper Restaurant is in the centre of Padstow, Cornwall. There is a large menu (a lot of it sea food) to choose from. It is usually open from August - November, you cannot book in between 6.30 and 9pm, it's usually very busy. It's a nice atmosphere, decor is a bit out of date but that all adds to it's character. Definately worth a visit if you're a seafood lover. Prices were not cheap but nowhere really is in padstow. Meals were about £10 at the cheapest ranging up to about £25 for some fish dishes. They do cakes and afternoon tea, large selection of lovely looking deserts, I was too full to try one as the portion sizes are quite big.
