About

The Fieldhead is situated in West Looe in Cornwall, only a fifteen minute walk along the waterside to the centre of town. In summer a passenger ferry plies across the harbour mouth. The town beach is popular in the summer months while the rock pools and sandy coves below the hotel provide interest all year round. Looe is an old seafaring town with a long history of fishing and smuggling. Just 17 miles west of Plymouth. East and West Looe are split by the river running out to sea with a landmark seven arched stone bridge linking the two sides. The town 'centre' is at East Looe, with its cobbled streets, quaint cottages, shops and the busy fishing harbour. More on Looe area... Built in 1896 as a grand private residence, The Fieldhead is now a traditional, warm and friendly country house style hotel offering a very high standard of comfort and service. It occupies a prime, elevated position with unrivalled sea views from virtually every room across Looe Bay to Rame Head and beyond. Fascinating Looe Island, still in private hands is but a stones throw from the hotel, while the famous Eddystone Lighthouse is 12 miles away on the horizon.

Wonderful and under-rated

This is a lovely hotel. Greatly under-rated. A party of us stayed in January 2011 and enjoyed every moment. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food - you cannot find better for taste and delightful presentation. The staff are helpful and attentive. The sea views are magnificent. And only 2 stars? I have stayed in 4 stars hotels that do not match this. Highly recommended.

Awful, Overpriced Hotel

Service

Quality

Value

This hotel looks very nice on it's website but in reality it is cramped and old fashioned. It has a musty, claustrophobic feel inside. The food is poorly cooked. The "chef" is rude and unhelpful and the owner looks down his nose at the guests in a disdainful and patronising manner as if they are unwelcome intruders in his own home. Judging by a few reviews I've seen, some people seem to like the place, but I must say I've stayed in superior hotels costing half the price of The Fieldhead. Don't waste your hard earned.
