shop's policy

A few days ago I purchased a shrug/cardigan from the Clothes Shoppe in Hazel Grove. I was not informed at the time by the sales lady that I would not be able to receive a refund should the item be unsuitable. I returned today with the garment and my receipt and was told by a male assistant that the shop's policy was not to refund but only exchange or provide a credit note. I was not happy with this and I said there should be clear notification displayed in the shop and also the assistant should have made the policy clear at the time of purchase, particularly as I was unsure that the colour would match my outfit and I made this clear to her. In addition, the male assistant's attitude today was condescending in the extreme and I took offence at his patronising manner. He also smirked when I mentioned having bought things previously, saying that I should have been aware of the policy then, regarding refunds. I said I had not had occasion to return anything so I was not aware. He refused my request to speak to the owner of the business or even supply their name. Needless to say, I will not be returning to purchase anything further from this shop as customer service is obviously of low priority, even if their so called policy is upheld by law. Sometimes bending the rules goes a long way to ensure customer satisfaction.
