Would not recommend Russell Residential Lettings

I was a tenant in a reasonably expensive property managed by Russell's for a year. Every interaction with them left me fuming. From the outset, I was left with the feeling that tenants were considered the lowest of the low, and merely there to be milked for all the cash available. Specifically: • The fees to secure the property at the start of the tenancy ran into hundreds of pounds and were far higher than any I have been charged on other tenancies. • The staff signing us up as tenants were abrupt and rude. • During the tenancy our phone numbers were routinely passed to third party contractors without permission. • We were expected to make arrangements to let contractors in even when we hadn't requested them and there was no need for them (other than a landlord requested modification). • Requests for repairs were slow or forgotten. • The ‘checking out' fees ran into hundreds of pounds, again far in excess of anything any other agent had charged. They look for any excuse to charge a fee, for things which normally be covered by the landlord's management fees. If I need to rent another property in Cambridge, I will never use them again. Beware!
