Mixed feelings

Having passed by this impressive looking restaurant on a number of occassions I was intrigued to find out what it was like inside. When a suitable opportunity arose I checked a number of websites to see what others thought and found the results quite mixed. My boyfriend, a visiting colleague from overseas and I decided to take a risk and, on recomendation, booked in advance. On arriving we were met by ... well I was going to say a door man in full Indian dress, but he was not opening doors he was simply taking coats. I offered him my full length coat which he ignored in favour of my friends' jackets ... he wanted to put these on the one hanger first and mine on top, but failed to explain this in any way. He then proceeded to engage my boyfriend in conversation about an item he was wearing in what we considered a somewhat over personal fashion. Not the best start. On entering the dinning area (opening the door ourselves) we were ushered towards a desk with no one at it. Then someone arrived and I gave the name of the booking. This person then walked away without comment, to be replaced with another to whom I had to repeat what had already been said. Not getting any better. At the table we appeared to be experiencing the same problem - someone came, we started to order, they walked away - quite bizare. However, when the food did arrive it was lovely ... thank goodness for that. Unfortunately, the setting although quite nice, did not live up to the outside of the building and the atmosphere was quite flat. At the end of the meal my boyfriend asked for an Espresso (on the menu), to be told that they only had filter coffee. He ordered that instead. On leaving we encountered the same gentleman looking after the cloakroom. This time he offered me the hanger, complete with 3 coats. I attempted to liberate my own, on top, to find that he had actually let go and the whole lot fell to the floor, at which point he made no attempt to pick this up himself. I was beginning to wonder if it was personal. We left feeling somewhat bemused. The food was good, the service whilst not dreadful was quite peculiar. Whilst I would not warn friends not to visit this restaurant, I personally will not be going there again.

Sister Restaurant to La Hind

Service

Quality

Jaipur and La Hind are run by brothers, so you can probably imagine that they are going to be comparable for food quality and that's certainly true. One thing that Japuir has that La Hind doesn't is setting. What I mean by this is that Jaipur was purpose built only a few years ago, and is a really incredible white building that has a really indian ambiance to it.Inside the dining area is rich and yet peaceful at the same time, and their take away service is as good as their sister location.I think I only rate La Hind higher as it's been around longer, and maybe I feel a little more loyalty to it because of this. The food here is fantastic, the dishes are really well thought about and nothing is over oily. The choice they offer is superb and unlike many indian restaurants they even offer a reasonable selection of vegetarian and vegan options.Definitely a place to take someone if you want to impress them!

Much too expensive and doubtful that it is Halal. Certainly the beer isn't!

Jaipur MK

Service

Quality

Value

An excellent place to sample delicious Indian cuisine. It is a cut above the average Indian eatery with a wide range of high quality, unusual dishes. At the Jaipur you dine in luxurious surroundings (the building itself resembles some sort of temple). It offers a sophisticated dining experience, the waiters are very polite, helpful and attentive. All the dishes come beautifully presented and taste delicious, there is food to suit all palettes, from a mild pistachio korma to very spicy dishes which are indicated by a rating system on the menu. Vegetarians are well catered for with a variety of starters, mains and some delicious vegetable side dishes. Their breads and rices are also excellent and varied. It is quite an expensive place to eat but well worth a visit. They also offer an excellent take-away service.
