Had a wonderful meal here - lots of good fish dishes. Very good wine list. Delicious dessert menu - try the 'selection of desserts' option - several of the desserts on one dish to try, lovely!Car parking not great - too small and close to a busy road. Definitely worth a visit for a special meal out.

The food was lovely and cooked perfectly. The menu had plenty of choice and the restaurant was decorated in an Egyptian style that was nice to look at - not tacky. The bar was well stocked and the menu was generally gastro pub themed but featured quite a lot of fresh Fish and international dishes. Obviously, check their web site for their current menu!Only downside was the car park. It was slightly too small, it had no lights or CCTV and it was out of view from the restaurant. On a busy road, it's no wonder that a few cars have been broken in to. As a hotel, you would expect better car parking. Make sure you alarm your car and lock the glove compartment.Overall however the food was lovely and the ambience was perfect. The service was exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Bridging the gap between a gastropub and a restaurant

If you live in Newbury and fancy a short drive through the coutryside in order to feel like "while I was driving near Newbury, I found this great place", Carnarvon Arms will do you justice. For those interested, the Chef has a Michelin star and most of their dishes are offered in smaller portions (presumambly for children or for not so hungry customers).Starters include cream of Jerusalem artichoke soup with pancetta, fresh Portland crab with fine past lobster sauce, or a crispy tart of creamed leeks ands Dorset Blue Vinney.Main includes roasted hen pheasant breast with gratin potatoes as well as Savoy cabbage and chorizo mushroom sauce. Leave room for desserts such as sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and a vanilla bean pannacotta and berry compote. Wine list is also good. But the thing that really takes me there over and over again is that behind the far end-door of the restaurant you find 10 or so lovely, reasonably priced, clean and quite rooms to spend the rest of the night if you don't feel like driving back home.
