"I've always had a passion for form – for the shape and structure of an object. I trained as a furniture designer-maker, graduating with a degree in Three Dimensional Design and specialising in wood and metalwork. A new dynamic to my work was introduced after learning to weld, and I began to forge a collection of largely gardenware including plant supports, sculptures and benches. Since my early work I've come a long way, blurring the boundaries between furniture and sculpture, questioning the confines of form and function, and developing my skills as a craftswoman."
"For me, the ultimate form for a horse is a ‘unicorn'. It's strength and elegance are beyond measure. They have an honesty and nobility unmatched by any other mythical creature. I have always enjoyed the equine form – being brought up on Dartmoor, was always around horses. Then suddenly I found myself with MS and unable to drive a car. My then wife Philppa talked me into buying a pony and trap, so I did, and to cut a long story short, I was confronted with a Dales stallion, called Wolsey Master Brown who turned out to be the best friend I ever had. Not the fire-breathing stallion I had dreaded, he was a true gent. So began a real admiration of horses. My first ever sculpture, made from wire coat hangers, was of him! Though a heavy horse, his movement enthralled me. I watched other native breeds and the fine movement of Arabs. Could I ever capture that image and keep the movement in what would be a static creation?"
"I am a designer maker working mainly in metal making garden related and other decorative and functional pieces. An important part of my practice is imparting some of my skills through teaching a wide diversity of clients."
“I trained as a Painter, doing an MA in Fine Art; I started working with GLASS and became totally engrossed in the colours and textures I could make and find and became totally seduced by it. I enjoy the specific process, the traditional working methods involved in producing a lead window, or making a fused glass panel. I am constantly learning about the materials, finding different combinations that work together, which makes it such an engaging work, and a delightful way of earning a living."
