  • Holocaust Education for Schools and Colleges

Holocaust Enrichment Presentations and Workshops for schools and FE colleges,
in which I give a very personal account of my background, experiences of prejudice, family history connected with The Holocaust. My presentations are supplemented by photos, readings, film extracts and opportunities for questions.
I also touch upon racism and anti-semitism in general and its continued presence in contemporary society.

The Holocaust and what it means to be Jewish today-A Personal Story

I am currently offering a unique service to schools and FE colleges, in which I give presentations and workshops on the theme of The Holocaust, with specific reference to my own personal history and experiences of prejudice.

I illustrate my presentations with photos, written testimonies and extracts from films such as The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas(which I know is studied in most schools) and Schindler's List.

I have so far visited over 100 different schools and colleges up and down the country. I recently made my third visit to Rossall School, at the invitation of Guy Emmett and would very much like to speak at your school in the near future.
Other schools visited in the past few months include Birkenhead School, Concord College Shrewsbury, Colston Girls' School, St Bede's College Manchester, Sedbergh School, Sir William Perkins School, The Hawthorns(both in Surrey),
Leicester Grammar, North Cestrian Grammar in Altrincham, Cheshire, ACS Egham and Holy Cross College in Bury.
I have also worked at The Ridgeway School in Swindon, St Monica's RC High in Manchester, Prestwich Arts College, West Derby High in Liverpool, Bede Academy in Blyth, Marden High School, Hetton School,
Altrincham College of Arts and Chew Valley School in Somerset.

I recently worked at Accrington Academy, Leyland St Mary's, St Aidan's Catholic Academy in Sunderland, Joseph Swan Academy in Gateshead, St John's School in Billericay, St Bees School in Cumbria,
The Piggott School in Reading(where I addressed Year 13 students and am returning in June to speak to Year 12) and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College.
I have spoken to groups of Year 5-13 pupils at many schools, where my very personal story makes an immediate connection with the students.

My presentations compliment the teaching of The Holocaust in a very personal and communicative manner and this aspect certainly encourages students to ask many pertinent questions at the end of the presentations.

I am sure you will find that my talks deal with the subject most sensitively and are both moving and powerful.

For feedback and references, please visit my website.

I would be very happy to discuss the school's requirements in more detail.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and for your help in passing the details on to your colleagues in History & RS.

Yours sincerely,

Freddy Naftel

PS I have printed a letter received from a Year 9 pupil at Rossall School and attach photos of a recent visit to St Aidan's Catholic Academy in Sunderland:

Dear Mr Naftel,

I am a student of Rossall School and was at the presentation you gave on Friday 10th November. I wanted to say that I found your presentation very interesting and inspiring and I thought you presented a difficult subject very well. You inspired me to find out even more about the War. I had known about the Holocaust but never knew just how bad it was. I found the pictures sad but a real eye opener. I thought your family story was fascinating and that it was nice that we could relate to the Holocaust through your story. Finally I wanted to thank you for coming to talk to us out of your own free time.

Many thanks once again

Kathryn Salt
