I recently went shopping for a new bike, as my current bike is almost 20 years old and on its last legs. I went into Gerry Shield's and explained my situation. To my surprise, the shopkeeper Chris explained that I might not need to buy a new bike, and that my old bike could be salvageable. This surprised me as I genuinely thought my bike was beyond repair (misfiring gears, shoddy brakes, noisy pedal action), but Chris listened to my problems and was very confident he could get it running smoothly again. Not only that, I was plesantly surprised that I'd found a shopkeeper who was trying to get the best result for me, not just sell me a new bike. Had I gone to Halfords or such a place, I imagine I would have been sold any old bike. Chris took the time to address my needs, and when I took my bike in to be fixed, I was over the moon with the results. My bike rides like a dream now, all gears firing, brakes working, pedal action smooth as silk. I'm absolutely chuffed to bits! I'm genuinely very grateful for Chris's skills in being able to give me my old bike back. I recommend this shop for anyone who needs to get help, advice and great value service. I'll be telling all my friends to go to this shop from now on. Thanks Chris!

There is no one to compare to for hospitality, help and advice! When I had my treasured Pemberton Arrow stolen Gerry was the man who found me another! He is still the master wheel builder and Chris one of the most helpful decent people I've ever met. The best cycle shop for miles around!

I got great advice at Gerry Sheilds when I was after a new bike. Rather than just sell me anything, he asked what I wanted to use it for and steered me towards a hybrid bike. I ended up spending less than my total budget and got a great bike which I've already ridden miles and miles on. We won't hesitate in going back when my husband replaces his bike in the near future. He really knows his stuff and is more concerned about you getting the right product than just trying to make a sale. Fantastic cycle shop.

Forget large impersonal outlets, the one to one service and advice from Chris and Gerry Shields is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble and it was a pleasure to do business with them. I would recommend this family run business to anyone.

Thank you for an excellent set of wheels for my Carlton. Beautiful 27" rims laced onto Maillard large flange hubs. A visit to Gerry Shields is a must for any one interested in cycling as sport or recreation.

I first found the Gerry Shields shop when i went to pick up a beautiful Coppi framed bike built in the shop. I then went back for another, and had them make me a 'Frankenbike' from all the other spares i had left which i ride almost every day. They're currently building me some wheels. The shop is run by Chris Shields (Gerry's son) but Gerry is still very much involved and brings his experience to bear. They have both always been exceptionally helpful, above and beyond the call of duty (even giving advice on products they don't even sell). And they're very friendly. So if you'd rather go to a shop which combines decades worth of cycling experience and enthusiasm, with friendly advice and none of the one-upmanship you get from the cooler-than-thou youth you tend to find in bike shops, Gerry Shields is the place. I still go there, and i live in London.

I grew up in Manchester in the 70's with my dad swearing blind he wouldn' t get his spares from anyone else but Gerry Shields. My dad bought me a "Gerry Shields" cycling cap when I was a lad. I cherished it for years. I am now living in Sydney, Australia and still love my cycling. I'm gonna get me a Gerry Shields cycling cap again for my Dad, if they still do them!!
