My Pizzas were so bad.

This is for the delivered food ( I have not been inside Davardis for over 20 years) I am commenting on a couple of pizzas I got a few weeks ago so you know this isn't an annoyed knee jerk reaction. Just so you know, I like gourmet pizzas and can equally enjoy the kind of Pizzas you get from some of the sweaty places like in Farnworth - they are two different beasts but if it's good it's good. I also don't mind paying more to get better quality. The pizzas that arrived were frankly a disgrace - if you are going to have a gourmet type pizza(where you aren't relying on cheese to add taste) then the dough has to be really good. It needs to be light, crispy and tasty - the base on these delivered pizzas were more akin to a thick chappati than anything else. Soggy, doughy, tasteless with a mess of toppings on. I honestly couldn't believe it - I could do just as well at home in my domestic oven. Although the pizza arrived wrapped in foil(foil ffs!) which obviously doesn't help the crispiness of a pizza I could tell that it had never been any good - it had never 'risen' in any meaningful sense. I would recommend Davardis go to Costco and buy a slice of their ready made pizza...that is what a pizza base should taste like - you should be able to scrape off all the toppings and it would still taste great! I have a friend who says that Davardi's is the best place in Bolton for pizzas but I know for a fact he hasn't been there in 20 years - are they riding on an unfathomably great reputation? Were they the first place to sell pizzas around here so there was nothing to compare them to? I'll never try Davardi's again cos there are only three explanations: 1) Their standards for an acceptable pizza are extremely low. 2) They simply have no idea what they are doing. 3) They don't care whether it is acceptable or not. To those people who give 5 stars then I have to suggest you try making your own, it would be cheaper and better - I promise. The difficulty in making a pizza at home is that you can't get the oven hot enough to get the dough to rise with all those juicy toppings on. If Davardis don't bother getting the dough to rise either then why order from them? I can make a pizza at home that doesn't rise. Someone on here has put that it is 'the best Pizza you can get'. It's not. Not slightly. Not close. Not in the running. Not an honourable mention. It was delivered in the hour they said it would be. I'm not sure which I am more annoyed with - that this place simply can't be bothered good pizzas or that people think this is a good pizza!

We have had davardis pizza for years, our friends are the same and told us never to order from them again as their food went straight into the bin! tonight the 11th November 2011 we ordered pizza's and salad, guess what, the bin won. Soggy undercooked pizza base, small could'nt make out toppings, should have been meat balls! size of base reduced by half and the salad was a dirty coloured mish mash of grated carrot and cannot decipher what else. £20 plus for absolutely bin food, We will never again order food from them, which is such a shame when you think of how it used to be! Interestingly we went on their home page to complain and guess what you can't!

5 years ago davardi's was the only place I'd go for pizza, It is true that people uesd to travel for miles for the food when I moved to St. Helens still used to make the journey every now and again and would wait about 2 hours for a pizza it was that busy, but since the new management has taken over it is by no means what it was I still make a visit rarely and used to wait about 15mins so that shows people have moved on from there, Since they started delivering it has got allot busier and customers have come back, although the pizza's have improved a little they are no longer worth the journey unfortunately

We used to always order take out here when i was little- and since being able to drive i have started going back more often. after coming on this website to get the phone number i was shocked to see some poor reveiws of the place. The lady who seems to own it has always been pleasant to us and the food has always been amazing. i have never eaten in, in all fairness, but every take out has been gorgeous and worth the 25 min drive in comparison with ordering a normal pizza take out.

I haven't eaten in at Davardi's since I was a teenager, and hadn't eaten there for years, however I recently called in for a takeway and wasn't disappointed! The pizza is delicious; much better than chains like dominos, pizza hut etc, and the counter staff were polite too. I didn't encounter 'the woman' other users comment on. I would go back for a takeout !

What is going on with these reviews, Two that sound like the owner may have written, then a long gap then two that looked truthful then within a month a sycophantic one in the same vein as the first two. Last time I went there I asked where the toilets where the woman everyone seems to have an issue with said upstairs in a less the friendly manner. I took a long trek up the stairs past the kitchen(believe me I regreted that) I was glad I am not a bigger person space comes at a premium in that place. I am told the mens toilets are even worse. This place caters mainly to the council estate behind and I wish alcohol was banned there. The older woman did smile as I paid her the money, but I noticed the smile did not quite reach her eyes.

after a horrible visit to davardis i was surprised that people claim to travel so for in two of the reviews. the read like advertising slogans. My visit was more in tune with Derek Ps. I noticed the woman who has being there for years behaving , not horrible, but somewhat indifferent. I remember talking about my speech impederment to her as a child, but like simon of the review I remember lovely pizzas of old, nowadays they are indeed greasy. What I remembered of the past and what was special is gone. Sure it is time to retire and sell davardis to someone like I remember from my childhood, someone who cares and give a personal service.

Surprised by the greasy pizza. the dirty place.the appearance of the staff, scuffy, particulriry the bad tempered old woman who stutted around shouting at staff. the atmosphere was unpleasant because of her lack of professionalism. Iwould never reconmend this place to anyone. I will write similar reveiws for other websites. there was also no disabled acsess the tiolets werw bably situated. and I an glad there was not a fire because the dingy little place was crammed to the gills. it was on the whole unwelcoming and unfriendly not what you expect from a family business

Been a regular since 1972 (they opened in 1971) Family run business that has maintained a consistently high standard over the last 35 yrs that I`ve been a customer. I too travel nowadays, from Southport - Worth it? Yes, every last mouthful. Treat yourself - and I defy you to eat more than £12 per head....you can take your own booze too. B 4 10 pm

Perfect Pizza

This tiny Pizza place undoubtedly serves the BEST pizza and Garlic Bread in the entire North of England. It is now also Non Smoking - a wonderful bonus. This restaurant is a cosy one roomed establishment with friendly staff. Although cosy, a little more space between tables would be nice. There is no alcohol served but customers are able to take along their own. There are vegetarian pizzas available. We often travel over from Blackpool just foe a Davardi's pizza. They also have a takeaway counter
