Excellent down to earth local

This is a great example of a place that is really comfortable in its own skin. The decor is faded, the wooden floor well worn but there's nothing jaded about the atmosphere, which is friendly and laid back. The staff are chippy but in a funny, intelligent way rather than just plain stupid and rude. They know their regulars but make stranger welcome with equal ease.Drinks are the forte here - a fine selection of imported draught lagers & beers as well as 5 very well kept real ales. Most fascinating was the luminous orange Thatchers draught cider that was being voraciously devoured by more than a few hardy punters.Whatever your poison, you're unlikely to be disappointed by Bar Fringe and its beguiling charm.

Anyone for orange cider?

Quirky, unpretentious bar perched on the edge of the Northern Quarter. Bar Fringe serves a range of flavoured beers and a fairly foul smelling but surprisingly tasty luminous orange cider. Casual and relaxed environment, can get quite busy as the night progresses.

The first time I went to the Fringe, there was a biker convention there and I wondered where my friends had taken me to ...... but, there was a friendly atmosphere, and the range of beers (all served with their own glass) was a little overwhelming but great to look through. Some of the fruit beers I had never heard of before, but were just like drinking pop (had to keep reminding self that they were 6%!!!) and were very moorish indeedSince my first time there, I've been back to try out more of their range of beer and realised that it is quite handy when walking back to piccadilly train station after a day of shopping (just for the one though ...)

Best Belgian Beers

Service

Probably the best Belgian Beer selection in Manchester, both on tap and in bottles. Other obscure lagers from around the world also that reach some serious alcohol percentages. Advised to check out how strong they are before u take a lucky dip! Situated on the 'fringe' of the Northern Quarter, very unassuming from the outside and not the greatest of decor. Has beer garden (nothing special). Duke box is not too bad, 8 selections for £1 cannot be sniffed at.
