Would rather go to my favourite chippy

Fish club is one of those new ethically minded fish restaurants and not your average chippy. The restaurant is basic with hard wooden benches and a fish counter up front. The menu was also basic - different types of fish from coley to sea bass. I was trying to be healthy as i had already eaten thai at lunch so I ordered mackerel and mash (I was trying to kid myself that mash was healthier than chips) My friend ordered the haddock and chips. As soon as the dishes arrived I got food envy - I should have had haddock and chips. My lonely mackerel looked pitifully lonely on the plate - grumbling to myself i ate it. It was okay but couldn't believe I was eating a £8 mackerel when you could buy it for about 80p in Sainsburys. My mate's haddock was perfect but wasn't that impressed with the chips. I think we'll stick to our favorite chippy next time - Masters Super Fish in Waterloo.

Fish club is another one of these upmarket fish and chip restaurants that are coming into being along with Fish works and Tom's Place. (It used to be called Sea Cow). All 3 serve high quality and local fresh fish and you know you're not going to get soggy fish and chips wrapped in newspaper! They offer much more than your average battered cod and chips. At the Fish club, you can get haddock, coley, oysters, squid etc (changes with the seasons) and it's more of a sit-down meal at a low-key restaurant. They also have vegetarian and non-fish options aswell. I had battered haddock with tartare sauce and chips. The batter was light and crisp and the chips stayed crunchy for ages. When I cracked into my haddock, it was like a Marks and Spencer advert moment, i.e. food porn. You could see the steam coming out of the moist and succulent fish. So sexy! Sam had squid with a sweet chilli sauce, chips and mushy peas. It was nice but I think I won, yet again with my choice, mwahahaha.

I think this is the second Fish Club restaurant (the original being in Battersea), and it opened recently on the site where the Sea Cow (another "posh fish'n'chips" place) used to be.I dropped in for a quick bite and went for the really basic stuff - battered coley, chips and mushy peas. The highlights were the batter (lovely and light) and the very tasty mushy peas; definitely a step up from your average fish and chips shop. They also do much more complex dishes... I'll try one of these next time!
