a pre-theatre dinner with Mrs Magellanand two dear friends down from Cambridge for an evening in the smoke. Our challenge was to find the best Chinese restaurant within ten minutes of the theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue. We combed through the guide books and the brilliant Andy Hayler site and found this one, half way down the now pedestrianized Lisle Sreet.Excellent peking duck as starters all round. Then sizzling chicken and beef with cashewnuts.Food was plentiful and hot. Service really excellent, probably the best I have had in a London Chinese restaurant. The team could not have been more pleasant and more attentive: full marks to them all. The decor was a bit spartan but at least the tables were well spaced out. And best of all it was not hugely expensive: so top marks for value. The Professor will be back.
