Not as exciting as it sounds

Right at the end of the thoroughly unlovely City Road is the cafe-cum-bar, Shot in the Dark. Encompassing numerous metaphors in the name of your bar certainly makes it a more exciting prospect for prospective clientele, unfortunately it leaves open the possibility of disappointment when they arrive. ‘Am I going to get shot?' ‘a shot of what?' ‘Dark?' edgy, maybe even dangerous. Alas! It's just another so-so bar with the usual astronomical pricing (I needed a shot in the arm after ordering a round) and funky but uncomfortable furniture. If you happen to be wandering around this part of town after nightfall it might be worth a visit, but don't get all excited about it.

Shot in the Dark is a nice café bar on City Road in Cardiff serving a wide range of drinks and snacks. The atmosphere is relaxed, it is a perfect place to take your time over a cup of tea and a cake whilst chatting with friends or reading a book. The prices are quite high but the food and drink are of a high quality and very enjoyable. There is an upstairs seating area as well so there is plenty of space and it doesn't feel too crowded even when its busy. The whole place is available to hire as well apparently, it would be good as a party venue.

So often cafe bars are too much of one or the other. This manages to get the balance just right. The selection of drinks is extensive with more herbal teas than I've heard of , local beers, wines and delicious looking cakes. The decor is relaxed with sofas and wooden chairs and tables allowing for various arrngements depending on the number in your company. This is definately somewhere you wouldn't mind being on your own. The art on the walls is by local artists. There is an upstairs where there are performances and goups - knitting, scrable etc - are welcome. All in all a great welcoming anf friendly place.

THE cool cafe in Cardiff

A Shot in the Dark is the place to go for a nice relaxing cup of tea with a cake. It is very cosy with sofas, wooden tables and chairs, and black and white photos on the walls. It is seriously chilled and laid back. It has a very cosmopolitan feel about it. They offer a wide selection of cakes, food to share and proper food too. They have a great selection of teas (herbal and proper), and coffees. It is very popular with local students, as the food is reasonably priced, and they stay open until quite late (10 or 11pm).
