Avoid them at all cost. They seemed ok when came to quote the job. I asked for pitched roof on outbuilding to replace old asbestos roof that I removed (same shape). They used cheap timber and quality of their work was really low. Timber was not cut straight and at correct angles, so it just looks nasty when you look up. When I realised my roof will not have any joists I was told it doesn't need them which is against everything I found out about pitched roofs and what I was told by other roofers. I was also told by them when I questioned that, that they have 20 years of experience so they know what they're doing. At this stage they also told me to ensure I have cash ready. I have to give them that, the roof looks good from the outside. They used waterproof membrane instead of felt. They didn't use any sort of flashing and instead left the membrane in the gutter to prevent water from gutter splashing out at timber. Water from gutter is now drawn by the membrane and travels up leaving nasty wet marks. It also makes the timber wet which will rot soon enough. When they came back they said I just need to cut the membrane. When I asked them why they didn't do it they said it should be left in the gutter!!! Another problem, a small wet patch that appeared on the membrane at the top of the roof. They claimed it's not a leak as water can't leak there and said the membrane got wet when they were putting it on. Why only there? I've taken photo and will monitor this wet patch to see if they are right. Another problem, the roof they made completely misses the gutter attached to my building causing water to drip directly between my and my neighbour's garage. I asked them to rectify this when I noticed it at the time, so they just moved outside part of the gutter to make it look as if they did. My garage is close the neighbour's so now almost impossible to tackle it due to lack of room. When I asked them about this they said they did it right and started blaming my neighbour's roof when the water clearly runs from the roof they made directly between our buildings. They said they didn't touch the gutter, but surely they noticed that roof they were making will hang over it. They could have addressed when it was easier to access. Another problem, wall plate is not resting on the wall, but it's in the air. They've put bits of timber underneath and screwed it through. I'm no expert, but how can this support my roof properly when it's not properly resting on the wall? When I asked them about this they said my wall was not levelled so they needed to do it that way. Having watched videos on Youtube ( I have no 20 years experience remember, so have to seek any advice) I've learned that in that situation roofers put cement below wall plate. Guys from RT Lewis didn't think of that. I would never pay them to do my roof have I known how they work. When they eventually came out to see me following my complaint they told me 'you should have done it yourself if you know so much'. I probably should have and would have done better job than them with my 0 years of experience in roofing. That's not something one expects to hear from a tradesman who completed work for them. They obviously didn't accept any responsibility and left me to fix all the issues they created when building this roof.
