There are many reasons a person would benefit from Counselling, Psychotherapy, NLP or Coaching, and all reasons are valid. Examples include anxiety, depression, experiencing abuse, low self esteem, bereavement, anxiety, eating disorders, sexuality issues, relationship problems, phobias, work-life balance issues, stress, lack of motivation and illness to name but a few.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

The Green Rooms offers confidential counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. We work with adults and teenagers. Couples are not restricted to partners, but can also be mother and son, brother and sister, etc. You can read more our various types of counselling and psychotherapy by clicking on the links to the left - 'Who is it for?' and 'Types of therapy'.

There is no clear distinction between counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. In reality it doesn't matter what it's called as long as it's working for you. Counselling or psychotherapy gives you the space to focus on your issues in a constructive way. Your counsellor or psychotherapist will guide you to a better understanding of yourself, empowering you to find solutions to your issues by making changes in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

There are many reasons why people benefit from therapy and all reasons are valid. It is important not to minimise your issues because other people don't understand them. Examples of issues are experiencing abuse, low self esteem, bereavement, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexuality issues, relationship problems and illness to name but a few.

The number of sessions needed is unique to each client and will depend on your goals, how you use your time between sessions and how much support you have out-with therapy. Even with limited time or finances, realistic goals can still be achieved.

Counselling and Psychotherapy is available at all our offices – Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow West End, Glasgow Shawlands and Newton Mearns. We also offer sessions via telephone and skype.

We can usually offer you an appointment within 48 hours, and always within a week. Emergency appointments are also available.

Couples Counselling - Relationship Therapy - Marriage Counselling

The Green Rooms Couple Therapists have specialist training and experience in working with couples, and use various approaches or techniques depending on the type of couple and issues presented.

Couples can be romantic partners, family members, business partners, or any combination of 2 people. If there are more than 2 of you who would like to attend, see the Families page.

You may have relationship issues with your partner, child, step-child, sibling, etc. Any two people can attend couples therapy, regardless of their relationship with each other.

Couples therapy helps you to understand each other more fully. It gives you the space to explain how you feel and what you would like to be different.

The therapist helps you to communicate this to your partner and helps your partner understand why you feel the way you do. Your partner is also given the space to communicate how he/she feels to you, and you are supported in how this understanding makes you feel.

At each meeting you will more fully understand each other and what you have to do to move on.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT

CBT is a relational therapy, which aims to help you to recognise connections between your negative thoughts and feelings.

CBT believes that human experience is viewed as a product of 4 interacting elements: your thoughts (cognitions), your emotions, your behaviour and your bodily sensations (physiology).

CBT can help you to recognise and challenge your false beliefs and negative automatic thoughts, which in turn will help you create a more realistic belief system.

CBT is recognised by many health professionals as an extremely effective way to help people who may be experiencing various issues such as: depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexuality issues, abuse, and relationship difficulties to name but a few.

The following scenario can help you to see how CBT might help you:

Linda's friend has just walked past her in the street without saying hello. Linda has the automatic thought that ‘no-one likes me', which leads her to feel sad and low. She then decides to stay indoors and avoid any contact with others in her life (avoiding further rejection) which leads her to feeling even worse. She is then stuck in a cycle of negative thinking directed towards herself. In this example, CBT could help Linda to view the situation where her friend ignored her from more realistic perspective. For example, her friend might have been busy and might not have seen her, or the friend might have been having an ‘off day' of her own. Creating new ‘thoughts' in turn creates new emotions, behaviours and your body sensations.

Overall, CBT aims to try and correct your ‘negative thinking habits' to show you a more realistic way of viewing situations, thus preventing the negative cycle of thoughts that might lead to you feeling worse. Following therapy you should be able to recognise your own negative automatic thoughts and try to access alternative thoughts on your own.

*CBT is an individualised relational therapy. You and your therapist will always work together to try and find the best techniques that suit you.
*CBT is a relatively structured therapy. Your therapist will be asking lots of questions to try and understand your own personal story. Such questions might lead you to think about how your past experiences might have affected you in the present.
*CBT is an ‘active therapy' which requires you to use the techniques you learn in the therapy session in your own daily life, allows you to keep the techniques fresh in your mind between sessions, and importantly, allowing you to practice the things you are learning in therapy.

Mindfulness

Many people feel stressed and find it difficult to cope with the pressures in their life. Every day in the UK, a quarter of a million people miss work because of stress, with 75 per cent of all illnesses thought to be stress-related.

Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present moment, using techniques like heightened senses, meditation, breathing and yoga. It helps us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings, and so better able to manage them.

Practising mindfulness can significantly decrease stress, improve self-awareness and give you a feeling of being in control. It can also improve physical problems like hypertension, heart disease and chronic pain.

Anyone can learn mindfulness. It's simple, you can practise it anywhere, and the results can be life-changing.

Neuro Linguistic Programming - NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the science of modelling excellence and change in human behaviour. It uses techniques designed to allow you to be who you want to be including curing phobias, smoking cessation, curbing urges & cravings and reducing stress.

Issues which can be tackled with NLP usually only require one session.

If you want to know more about whether NLP can help you, contact us to arrange for a free 20 minute telephone consultation.

We can usually offer you an appointment within 48 hours, and always within a week. Emergency appointments are also available.

Life Coaching

Life Coaching is for those people who are fairly emotionally stable and wish to concentrate on changing one particular area of their life. It assists you to determine and achieve personal goals.

Our coaches use a variety of methods, tailored to the client, to move through the process of setting and reaching goals. Coaching is available on a face-to-face or telephone basis, or a combination of both.

Life Coaching can help with:

*Work-Life Balance
*Relationships
*Confidence-Building
*Business Partnership-Building

Life Coaching is available at all our offices – Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow West End, Glasgow Shawlands and Newton Mearns. We also offer sessions via telephone and skype.

We can usually offer you an appointment within 48 hours, and always within a week. Emergency appointments are also available.

Weight Loss Psychotherapy - Therapeutic Slimming

We understand that its really difficult to lose weight and keep it off. People over-eat for a reason and often this reason is not addressed during the weight-loss process.

The Green Rooms has developed a specialised Therapeutic Slimming model which supports you to deal with the underlying reasons for overeating and/or binging in addition to changing your eating and exercise behaviours.

Together we will uncover the reasons behind your current eating patterns, and will challenge these self-destructive behaviours. We will support you to establish a new perspective on food and eating. We will create opportunities to change your habits forever.

If nutritional education is required this is also provided.

The number of sessions that you would require depends on the extent of your current difficulties and how ready you are to make changes.

If you feel ready to make a difference and ready to start loving and respecting your body, there is no reason why using The Green Rooms Therapeutic Slimming Model wouldn't be of huge benefit to you.

We will NOT try to sell you pre-packed meals, drinks, supplements, etc. This model is about understanding yourself and your body more fully, learning to make healthy choices and learning how to motivate yourself.

We do not weigh you at the sessions, although you are welcome to keep track of your weight if you wish. We are more interested in how you look and feel, than the number on the scales.

We can usually offer you an appointment within 48 hours, and always within a week.

Emergency appointments are also available.

Testimonials

Life Coaching was just the thing for me. My life was fine on the surface but was lacking in direction, and the coaching helped me find exactly that. Now I'm more focussed than ever and have learned techniques to use when I feel myself slipping. Thanks!

Iain

If you'd said to me I'd never want to eat chocolate again, I'd have thought you were at it. I never thought I'd believe it but its actually true. I honestly don't like chocolate anymore. When I smell or taste it all I get is fat and chemicals, which is obviously really unapplealing. I lost 2kg in the month after doing the exercise, just from not eating chocolate anymore.
