Don't go near them with a barge pole!

My mother and I rented a car for a few days when we visited friends in Helen's Bay near Belfast. The car was fine and as we knew we wouldn't be using it very much we declined the extra insurance package which would have doubled the rental price. Unfortunately, when we returned it Avis found a scratch on the door which hadn't been there before - we definitely didn't do it but it must have happened when it was parked or something. We were charged nearly £400 pounds for this which, considering the size of the scratch, we thought was very excessive. I understand that under the terms of the rental agreement we were liable for the damage but the amount charged was ridiculous. I did appeal straight away and although Avis did agree to refund the administration fee (about £42) I am still very unhappy with the treatment we received. I will definitely not be using this company again.
