Ghyll Royd School, Pre-School and Nursery is an independent preparatory school for girls and boys aged 2 to 11 years

The key to our philosophy is that the pupil is at the centre of everything that the school does, a school where children can learn, mature and develop in different ways. This is a school that is flexible and subtle enough in the way it is run to be able to accommodate the needs and personalities of individual children, and to help them flourish and feel comfortable.

The school combines the highest standards of teaching, learning and pastoral care with a strong emphasis on a sense of community and traditional values based around our 5 C's courtesy, care, cooperation, consideration and concentration.

Testimonials

My little boy, who is in reception, absolutely loves school. He is given amazing care and attention, with plenty of 1-1 interaction from his teachers. We could not be more impressed with Ghyll Royd. It offers our little boy a nurturing environment where he is truly valued as an individual and his lesson plans are all tailored especially for him. The teaching staff are outstanding, all of them offering great care and knowing each child well. The focus on activities beyond the national curriculum such as dance, art, music adds so much value to his school day and as parents we are happy that he gets to enjoy these creative subjects as well as learning core subjects.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for welcoming Millie so nicely. She is thoroughly enjoying coming which can be seen in the fact that she wants to come more often! I really made the right decision in sending her to Ghyll Royd.

We were overwhelmed by the family atmosphere when we first looked around Ghyll Royd, and this remains an overriding positive about the school. This environment provides the perfect foundation to develop the individual potential of each individual child, no matter what that is. Ghyll Royd will always look for ways to build the confidence of children and provide them with really important lifeskills that are very much recognised and appreciated by the secondary schools in the area. The children mix really well between all the age groups, with older pupils enjoying helping little one’s with lunch and clubs for example, and and the younger girls and boys appreciating being involved in the older pupils’ games, or being part of a house team for a quiz or sports event. Ghyll Royd is a very special place.

Our oldest son already attended another school in the area but when they shut their pre-school we had a dilemma as to what to do with our younger son – keep him at nursery another year or move both children to Ghyll Royd. We had no problems deciding that our youngest son should start in the Pre-School but agonised over whether to move our eldest from a school he had settled into. Our eldest son used to be shy and quiet. After a few years at his previous school he had just started to show his true colours and we didn’t want to set him back by moving him. Eventually we made the decision to move both children to Ghyll Royd and have never looked back. We as parents couldn’t have been supported more in settling our boys in. Parents were on hand to give advice on the practical things, the staff were available to talk to and provide reassurance that my boys had settled in and all the children were polite, friendly and willing to help Josh and Casper settle into the school routine. Although Josh, our eldest, did struggle for a few weeks, he soon started to show his true colours again! My only regret is not discovering Ghyll Royd sooner.

Our children started at Ghyll Royd just over a term ago and from day 1 they have both loved it. The school has helped grow their confidence and has given them the opportunity to take part in so many different activities and new learning experiences. The staff and the other parents have been so welcoming and supportive – we couldn’t have asked for any more!

Ghyll Royd is a warm, friendly school, one which encourages each and every child to do their very best. The pupils are to be commended on their manners, their politeness and their obvious pride in their school. The pupils are so well prepared for their secondary school of choice, achieving excellent entrance exam results, many with scholarships. We can’t recommend Ghyll Royd enough.
