About Us

The asphaleia adventure began over 10 years ago in a sleepy seaside town called Worthing, West Sussex, when four colleagues left their existing place of work to join together and build an organisation from scratch, dedicated to impacting the lives of children and young people - looking back, it sounds a little crazy but those four individuals thought that working with children and young people was the best job in the world...and we haven't been proved wrong!

Last year we celebrated our 10 year anniversary - in that time we have moved from supporting just five young people in our very first project to working with well over 1000 children and young people every year. Those four people are immensely proud and thankful for the risk they took.

Asphaleia action

Asphaleia action is a registered charity seeking to contribute to the care, upbringing & advancement of life for vulnerable children & young people in the UK and internationally.

Our approach is all about taking action. Where the most vulnerable children and young people are in need of specialist support, our charity will respond so that we are able to protect and support them through a range of projects and services.

Established in 2000 in response to a need in West Sussex for specialist support for refugee children, we now provide services in West London, West Sussex, Kent and Sierra Leone, Africa to disadvantaged young people from many backgrounds including:, trafficked young people and young people at risk of being trafficked; young people in poverty; looked after children; young people with learning difficulties/disabilities; young people with behavioural emotional and social difficulties; teenage parents and young offenders, migrants and refugees.

Our mission & values

The asphaleia mission is simple - to impact as many lives of children and young people who have experienced disadvantage as we can. We believe it is a simple, but very powerful mission that drives forward every aspect of our delivery and ensures we place children and young people at the heart of everything we do.

We aim to deliver our mission by:

Delivering a diverse range of services to children and young people that contribute significantly to their development and well being in various regions
Providing support services to the organisations that work with children and young people
Creating new services
Creating and delivering additional charitable projects that deliver innovative, action based services to children and young people
Our values are summed up by three simple principles and these, when in action, create the asphaleia way of doing things. When working with children and young people, other professionals or colleagues we believe service and co-operation can only begin to be achieved to a high standard by considering the world of others. However, we believe it is not enough to solely believe the world of others matters - this is only a starting place. The asphaleia group believe in demonstrating our value of those we deliver services to, those who pay for our services and those we work with in every possible way.

Finally, we believe we should aim to do everything well. We realise excellence is a journey and not a finitely achievable thing. Therefore even when we have done something well we should then aim to do it even better!
