Albert Thompson School of Motoring offers manual transmission driving lessons for basic "L", Pass Plus and advanced motoring. We pride ourselves on excellent driving tuition and high pass rates.

We cover the following areas:- Crawley; East Grinstead; Crawley Down; Gatwick; Copthorne; Turners Hill; Sharpthorne; West Hoathley; Ardingly; Dormansland; Lingfield and surrounding areas.

Your training car is a Citroen C3, a modern duel controlled manual car with power steering and air conditioning that's easy and comfortable to drive.

1 Full hour lessons - £22

5 hour lessons paid in advance - £105 SAVE £5

Use of the school car for a driving test

(usually 2 hours) £44

Extra time may be needed depending on the distance to the test centre



Pass Plus / Motorway lessons £24 per hour

Trailer Training

If you passed your car test after January 1997, there are restrictions to the type of vehicles that you can drive. The maximum weight of vehicle is 3.5 tonnes. If you tow a trailer the maximum weight increases to 4.25 tonnes. The trailer must not weigh more than the unladen weight of the towing vehicle. To drive a larger vehicle you must pass a test for category C1 (7.5 tonnes) or C (32 tonnes). If you need to tow a larger trailer, you must pass a B+E (car and trailer) or a C1+E or C+E (lorry and trailer). You must hold the rigid category before you can take a test with a trailer.



If you passed your test before January 1997, you will already hold a B+E licence (car & trailer) and a D1+E (mini bus & trailer). You also hold a C1+E licence (7.5 tonne goods vehicle & trailer), but you are restricted to a maximum weight with a trailer to 8.25 tonnes. After you pass a C1+E test the maximum weight with trailer is 12 tonnes.



If you have a suitable towing vehicle (B - C1 - D1) and / or trailer, you can use it for training and the test. I can provide a suitable trailer. Cost £20.00 per session. Training is charged at 25.00 per hour. Normally a session is 3 hours, but this is flexible.



The current DSA test fee for large vehicles and any trailer test is £115.00



If you don't need a test, but need help reversing or confidence on the road, I can run a course to suit you.
